If it wasn't happing to me I would think this conversation with this eBay seller is somewhat funny.

Bought a cheap dial tachometer on eBay to set the idle and answer some shift point questions I have with the automatic transmission. Never planned on making it a permanent fixture in my car.

Received the tach and it was shipped in an unpadded shipping bag. Opened it up and the box the tach is in is crushed, but no visible damage to the tach itself.

Message the seller about the damaged package. His response -

    "Dear customer,

I am sorry that you have received a broken box, we will enhance the packing.

Please install the product and test the function, if there is any quality problem, please feel free to contact with us and we will help you out, please don't worry.

    Have a nice day~
    Regards.

Installed tach, doesn't work so message him back, his response-

    "Hi dear Customer,

I am sorry to know that the product did not work well, but don’t worry, we will help you out.

In order to help you better, could you please kindly send us a short video to show your operate process and the problem?

You can send the YouTube link to us via eBay message, please do not worry, we will send you free replacement once we checked the video.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Have a nice day~

Sent video showing power to all wires and tach doesn't light up or the needle moves. He responds-

    "Dear customer,
    Thanks for your kind message.

I have received your video, I already asked technician to check and to find the problem.
We will give you a proper solution asap for this case, so don't worry.

I will reply you soon once I get feedback from technician, please give me more time to handle, thanks.

    Any problems,please contact us.

    Have a nice day
    Regards.

The item shipped from the USA, but I don't know where this guy is located. Very unique word usage for someone located in the USA. Plus his "Any problems, please contact us". I did have a problem and already contacted them.

Going on 2 weeks now, wonder how long it will take for the "technician" to look at the video and decide that it was damaged in shipping and to send me a new one?

Open an issue with Ebay. Recently had vendor send me the wrong item. They came back and said we'll give you a $4 refund on a $12 item that I can't use. They then said OK, send it back and we will refund you. Why should I have to pay to return an incorrect item. Anyway went through Ebay and got it returned. Not a fun process. If it had been Amazon it would have been simple.

I've had several interactions like that with ebay sellers. I wouldn't worry about it.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

    Do what Fred sed!

Open a ticket with eBay and don't waste any more time with the seller.

EBay most likely will issue a full refund within a week.

I will try to work with a seller first, but as soon as they fire up the Calliope and the dancing clowns and elephants enter the ring, I go straight to Mr. Baily.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I had one case where I could NOT get the seller to understand me. I had told them 5 times that the item had come apart as soon as it went into service.

Eventually I sent them a photo of the parts. This worked.

I would explicitly tell them what you want (ie full refund, or new item).

    Good luck!

The broken english person I most recently dealt with on ebay wrote exactly like this one. It was regarding a cheap repro brake booster, and it was broken when it got here. I messaged them photos and they just sent a new one without needing the broken one back.

Yeah, I know. I would need to use my son's Prime account and pay him back, plus I had some money in my PayPal account to use.

I should be more clear with my first post, this conversation has been going on for 2 weeks, the message I received about the technician looking at it was from a few days ago. I will wait a few days and ask what timeframe is he thinking and if not an acceptable response get eBay involved.

You should be able to add you to his account and attach it to your own credit card. Our kids use our that way.

    I will check into that.

Prefer to buy on Amazon over eBay for new stuff. Used parts, eBay is about the only game on town.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

That "send a vid" must be a new stall tactic as I was asked for one on the last "problem" ebay item. Then they sent out a replacement and told me to dispose of the nonfunctioning one after asking for multiple vids as "they couldn't get the video to play". Maybe I was doing something wrong as when the daughter sent them one the wheels of replacement got rolling.
