Hi all, I purchased my 70 GS 350 with the heater removed and bypassed and a broken evaporator case and core. I rebuilt the heater assembly with new heater core and seals, got a new Evaporator case and core, and I would like some pointers to install it, since I didn't remove it. Are they're any pictures for reference? Does the heater box bolt on the firewall before you bolt on the evaporator case? Any help is appreciated. Can I install the heater assembly without removing the dash pad and radio? The glove box liner is out already. I removed the passenger kick panel, and I see one vacuum fitting in there, but I have 2 long hoses taped together so I assume that there's another spot for the second one? Any tips on installing the plastic tube for the drivers side dash vent, mine will not align with any of the holes in the lower dash so possible that the flex tubing was damaged and now is possibly too short? I was just holding it up to eyeball it, trying to figure out what my first step might be...... thanks, Kirk600
Heater goes in before evaporator box & sandwiches in the firewall insulation pad. I believe there's a vacuum diagram in the Chassis Service Manual. I have an A/C parts car here if you get hung up. Took one apart but been over a year & can't help w/a lot of details.
Thanks Dano, I have ordered a manual just waiting for it to arrive. I did find out the vacuum lines both connect to the contraption in the kick panel.....I missed the second connector.
Test all the vacuum diaphragms before you put it all back together. Nothing worse than having one of them leak after it is all done. Here is the vacuum routing and color codes for a 71. Thinks it is similar to the 72. Air inlet valve and assembly is under the passenger side kick panel. Should have 2 hoses going to it. I have had hissing (vacuum leak) under the dash that took a while to find and ended up being one of the connectors at the back of the control switch (ended up having to buy the a new/used fan switch for the control panel).
