Well my build will be finally moving forward. Received heads, cam and lifters along with other related parts. Spoke with Tim at TA today and pistons should ship today and I ordered the rest of the parts I’ll need. Will keep you all posted. Machinist said he should be done in 6 weeks once he has the pistons.
TA Forged steel rods, SP3, custom pan from Steve Reynolds, custom pistons with floating pins and 1mm rings from JE. My machinist only builds engines as if they were race engines and believes in high quality parts. He’s retired from a career of NHRA championships. Already have a Holley Super Sniper system installed on the original motor still in the car.
Would like to see how well the efi works on a sp3 intake. Head numbers are just a bit higher in lift then my iron heads. Should be interesting .
Yes they are and it’s no coincidence. Mike suggested this cam with more duration so I wouldn’t have to go too extreme with porting the aluminum heads. Although with my machinist‘s Pro Stock engine building experience I have no idea what’s up his sleeve.
He said no parts will be installed until he disassembles and inspects them. He’s experienced many brand name parts assembled wrong, clearances not as stated Or a small piece of stray metal. He’s confident TA is on point after a long conversation with Mike Sr., but he will do what he does on every build.
SRE pan in the works. Pistons arrived this week roller rocker armS, intake and hardware next week. Should be dropped off by next weekend. Will post pictures as I get get them.
Steve’s almost finished with pan. Received these today. Dropping off parts to machinist on Saturday. Finally moving forward.
Pan looks nice, a lot better than mine that I got 25 yrs ago. Highly recommended Your engine will appreciate it.
Unfortunately I was put on the back burner for two weeks because he had two race motors to freshen up. Then the kicker his oil tank in the basement started to leak when he had it filled. Guess where half his shop is? You got it in the basement. I just spoke with him as of today block has been align bored. Main and rod bearings sized. Block de-burred, oil mods. He’s going to deck the block for final height, bore and hone cylinders and final clean block. Then he’ll move onto the heads. If nothing else goes wrong, not always the case with my luck. I should have it back after Thanksgiving. So in reality beings I live in NY I won’t be on the road till spring. I don’t mind cause the engine bay needs a lot of TLC. Plan on pulling the old motor after Christmas.
