One big issue I really don't like is the treatment my daughter received. The dealership employers should never give out attitude.
When you say you're going to a local service center to get an oil change because you can save some money. Employee has no right to get an attitude about that. They know that dealerships are the most expensive in town.

I had an Service Manager get in my face and tell me I should ONLY use Honda oil (he over heard tell the service writer I get my oil changed at a local service station).
I said, I didn't know that Honda of Japan had oil wells. I lived in Japan for 5 years. He just walked away, and now when I go to the dealership he will not talk to me or say good morning.
I have a Service maintaince contract with this dealership.
Something I worked into the buying of a new Honda back in 2015.
Sometimes it not always about the repair part of the dealership service. Vet

    I'am done climbing the ladder.
Been there done that many times.

I'am taking her car to an independent garage to get a second evaluation.
Based on their findings, i will make a decision what direction I will go. But, I will not go to the Chevy dealership that gave my daughter a hard time.
Fortunately, we have several Chevy dealerships in my area.

That said, I will contact the regional Chevy rep and inform him of our issues, in writing.

I'm not expecting a lot of, we are so sorry, let us make it up to you.

There's a good reason why I stopped buying American cars a long time ago. Last one was 1986.
Besides, if I tried to discuss the issues with the General Manager of the dealership, I might lose my temper, and I will regret that for sure. So, time to move on to a place that cherishes it's customers.

Like most folks I have had good and bad experiences at dealerships. The worst 3 were GM. Consequently, I gave up on GM in 2008 - 12 years later than I should have.

I can't say enough good about the Infiniti dealer I use except that they have this stupid urinal that sends the piss right back onto your clothes.

Sorry to hear of your ongoing health issues. GWS

Problem with dealerships is there are too many chiefs with their own agendas.
    The service writer
    The service manager
    The technician (mechanic)
Nobody knows what one person told or promised the customer, the employees figure “I can handle it”
Then you have the cashier that usually is on the defensive because customers bitch to her about the bill or service,
Then there’s the general manager to “make things right” for the customer and ends up giving away labor, and that pisses off the technician who’s flat rate ( had THAT happen many times! “ we’ll take care of you Mark”)

One thing that I have learned in life is when having a "discussion", the first person to get angry is usually the one in the wrong.

...we know what happens when turbos overheat. I can't imagine any good coming from a failed coolant solenoid, unless it failed open...

What baffles me, how can the dealership claim this part isn't covered under the powertrain
    Warranty?????
The turbo is covered, and the turbo can't function without the coolant solenoid. All this is BS.

I agree. Back in the 80's, GM had a, IIRC, 7 year 70K mile emission warranty. Olds were known for intake manifold gaskets leaking coolant. We had to do them under the emission warranty because GM said that if the car wasn't running correctly, it was polluting.

Let's get terminology straightened out. Your daughter mentioned " turbo coolant bypass valve". I am not familiar with that component.

The Code mentioned in the bulletin is for "Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid".

We need confirmation of which one they supposedly found as being the problem.

If it's the latter, it is indeed an Emissions Warranty item, 3 years/50,000 miles. IF that is truly the suspect part, and it needs to be replaced, there are procedures in speaking with the dealer that they can initiate GM offering help with service payment on an out-of-warranty part (again, Emissions is 3 yrs)

First we need some kind of confirmation of the code(s) set by her engine control module. If a P2261 was set, this specifically indicates the Turbocharger Bypass Valve is stuck/failed, usually due to its solenoid failing, and there may be course of action in getting cost assistance. When that solenoid fails, the MIL is lit and the engine goes into limp mode, very little or no turbo function.

Obtaining scan tool codes is the next step.

Hi Devon, the dealership tech wrote turbo coolant bypass valve.
    It's on the invoice. VET

My guys here haven't heard of this part, and it's not showing up in Service Information. We need the specific code to verify what's going on. We here are betting it's the emissions part, Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid, and they may have used the wrong terminology with her.

Knowing the code(s) will tell all.

It's a $130 part from advance auto. And it doesn't look particularly hard to replace

    Thank you CJay.

Just FYI, I sent an email to Chevrolet Corporate yesterday.
I just got a reply from them ask to speak to my daughter.

Can't wait to hear that conversation and if Corporate is going to cover this under the Powertrain warranty. Vet

Exactly as I (and others here at the r&d shop) suspected. The valve in question has nothing to do with coolant, thus our guess on this end is right. It is a relatively simple item to replace. Remove intake air duct after loosening clamps, then the valve is right there in the turbo housing...three bolts is all.

Again, this is not a Powertrain Warranty part. It is classified as an Emission Warranty part, thus since it's been longer than three years, it is out of warranty. There are two avenues the dealer can pursue to possibly gain financial assistance from GM. I'll send you specifics via PM tomorrow morning once back in the office. Unfortunately, I don't know how long it takes to receive acceptance by GM once the process is initiated.

Even with that, the best bang for the buck may be to make the repair yourself (or someone else near her who's handy), or at least get a quote from an independent shop.

    Will be in touch.

P.S. Code P2261 which wasn't mentioned in the report, points to a mechanical failure of the valve. The code reported P0299 refers to the electrical part of the valve failing, the solenoid. We here at the shop feel strongly that's the root cause of the problem.

    Thank you very much.
I have an independent shop who can do what you just posted to me.

Just so you know, Chevrolet Corporate sent me an email, they want to talk with my daughter about this situation
    with the Chevy dealership.
We will be calling Corporate tomarrow.
They emailed me because I sent an email complaining about what my daughter had to go through.
Again, appreciate you taking your time to help me and my daughter. Vet
