Anne & I will be in Boston for 5 days, then a 10 day New England road trip, then cruise via Bar Harbour, Halifax, Sydney to Montreal. Then pick up a rental and drive Quebec- Ottawa- Niagara Falls- Detroit- Lansing- Chicago-St Louis.

I've done a lot of research for the trip, but local knowledge is so useful. I've got the obvious- the art galleries- Henry Ford museum, RE Olds Museum, Niagara Falls, etc.

Particularly in the New England/Maine/ Nova Scotia area.

If you're game and the timing is right, perhaps we could meet over a few beers? We've met a couple of you before on a previous trip and it's been great putting names and faces to the cars, so to speak.

Thanks in advance, and all advice is welcome.

If you're in New Hampshire, visit the White Mountains. You can do a nice loop across the Kancamaugus Highway, Bear Notch Road, through North Conway, up route 16 to Mount Washington (if the weather is nice and it's not winter you can drive up the auto road - highly recommended unless you have a great fear of heights), then cross over on route 2 and drop back down through Twin Mountain on route 3 to Franconia Notch. If you're near the notch at breakfast time, stop at Polly's Pancake Parlor for a great breakfast. Beautiful country, lots of outdoor stuff there.

I was going to say this. As a kid, my brother and I could walk who knows how far into the mud when the tide receded. I’ve never forgotten that experience.

I saw the St Croix river in Calais Maine with boats floating in 30 feet of water . Then hours later saw those same boats sitting in mud where they had been tied up . And that's not even the true Bay of Fundy , just a tributary . Truly amazing sight .

The Formula 1 Race in Montreal is Sunday June 9th, so there will lots going on in the City that weekend from June 6-9th... If you plan on being in or near Montreal in that time, get ready for some significant hotel costs! I always enjoy Ottawa, lots of good museums and sites, and it's about a 1.5 hour drive from Montreal.

As you are an Aussie you probably know this, but if anyone in your car has had a DUI, they will not be allowed into Canada.

If you are anywhere near Louisville, KY the first week of May, there is the Kentucky Derby and a whole bunch of activities leading up to it, including an air show over the Ohio River. Or, best to avoid the area if you aren't interested in crowds and horse racing.

Thanks PG. Exactly what I'm looking for. That looks really promising, and the bride approves!

Again, thank you to all who replied. I'd love to do the GS Nationals, but the cruise is booked & paid for.
We'll dodge the F1 GP and Kentucky Derby, but appreciate the thought. Normally we try to avoid major events- Olympics- Sturgess, etc.

When you're in the Boston area, you could go a 30 minute drive southwest outside the city to Bass Pro Shop in Foxboro, MA for one of the largest regular cruise nights/car shows on the east coast. It gets about 2,000 cars on a good night. I have run into people from this board there before. The schedule has not been published yet but it usually happens two Thursdays a month:

Try to take in a day of the Hot Rod Power Tour, nothing else like it.

I second the above. Just plan it for the entire evening. It's huge and the traffic is intense. It's on the Northbound side of US Rt 1, so it's very easy to find.

Thanks TTNC, GS 66 & John. I'll try to squeeze it it in. Might have to distract the bride with an art gallery or two.
