Well I hope i am not overstepping by posting my progress pictures here being a new member??? if so i appologize in advance.

I have quite a few pictures of "The Beast" from when I first brought it home as a ummmmm "Anniversary Present" :bglasses: to the way it is now.

The car is very solid and original only 54K. with a 401 Nailhead and Dynaflow trans. (i still think its cool that reverse is all the way down on the column I know im a dork:laugh: )

Aside of the typical roadworthyness replacements (brakes tune up etc) I really didnt NEED to do anything to her. other than replace the rear bumper (hole rot on ends) replace hood insulation (mice suck!!), I could have drove it a cpl years ago.

HOWEVER.... the more i poked around online and looked at how it could be... i decided to tinker with this and that alittle at a time...
so tomorrow after work im planning to pull the motor out just to degrease and paint back to factory buick green and stainless for exhaust mans. The motor has some of the factory paint left on the valve covers but... i seen a picture of one repainted and was like OHHH YEAHHH thats what im talkin bout:TU: it even has the original (i thinkthey came this way from factory?) glass sediment bowl with what seems like a stone filter in it!!! FRIKIN COOL RIGHT!!
Well seeing how I have to find something to monkey with ... i decided to try and undercoat the frame axle housings etc as best i can without the benefit of a frame off job... to make sure she dont rust up because i dont want to be pushin 60 tryin to redo the frame lol.. if anyone wants to know.. it is a spray on variety from 3M also available in a gallon size paintable with brush. really makes it look nice..
I also decided to replace the seat upholstry... becuse of a worn thru spot on front bench.. I did think up the idea to take carpets to stanley steamer to be cleaned... .50 cents a sq ft.... so its like 28bucks and ill have like new carpet!!! :TU:

having trouble finding kickpanels to replace the worn ones i have but am thinking about trying to make them myself dont seem too awfully hard to do... .

also want to get the original clock to work but havent dug into that at all yet.. hopeing its a fuse simple fix

ok enough yackin.. heres the pics i have thus far... will deff post pics of the engine when its out as i paint it up as well.

BTW.. the red seat covers in the pictures were a set of original ones made for the 62 invicta with front and rear bench seats by Fischer(came in original NOS box from Fischer) i was going to use those instead but decided not to because it covered up the chrome around the edges of the seats and the cigar lighter in back of the front seat.

Im going to sell those when i get around to making a post in the right place for them :)

Not a huge fan of pink mind you but I love that interior.I guess because it's so different than the norm.
That is going to make a awesome cruiser.

Yea when i first opened the door i was like oh man... this looks like krap... but specially since i took off the arm rest bases and seen the actual color that isnt faded or stained with smoke tar.. its goin to look kool i think..

and well i dont want to go thru the expense of repainting the ddash etc...
and its not pink its rose rose plaid LOLOL
i went thru the turmoil of changing it to something else but then i get tired of seeing the same interior or color set up in all the cars at the drive ins or shows.. imma deff be different anyhow right  :bglasses:

i think its goin to look awesome...

got a ?? tho... i pulled the 3 bolts out of the fly wheel.... thats a diamond and not round like a wheel.... when i turn the other converter bolts to move it around the flywheel still moves with it.. is that correct? ive got it ready to lift out but didnt want something flinging out accross the garage at me:Dou:
well soon as i find the frikin plate me and dad made eons ago that i just had in my grubby paws a month ago... that bolts on when carbs off to pull engine from center... but thats another mission i wasnt planning on.

thanks for all the help again..

wish my frigin engine pic would show up in my signature  wanna get that fixed b4 i get the new painted pic on it to show it off

got the nailer pulled out. out of 2 5 gallon buckets of bolts i cant find 4 to use for the frikin eng stand...

sendin wifey to lowes tomorrow... shell be on the stand in the evening after work... shoulda kept a vacation day dang it:Dou:

is it hard to find a set of headers for a dual exh for the 401?? ive looked around and most ive seen like on CARS is for the 455 or bigger ..

figure ill pull the trans later in the week to steam power wash it off b4 i do the seal kit. any tips or warnings on installing that?? im getting the external seal up kit from CARS figured its something i can handle on my own but wanna know if theres any surprises or flinging springs to worry about?? (and im not takin apart the converter so thats no prob. just pulling it out to get to the seal or whatever is behind it...

thanks for any info and help
posted a cpl pics of lifting it out and its beside the stand does that count??

pickin up head gasket kit from autozone tomorrow so i can button it back up.
plan for tomorrow night is to get a fire in garage so i can get er painted to the point of installing intake try to stage this so i dont booger up what i paint or miss something im puttin back on..

then its out with the exhaust manifolds (God willing) so i can clean them up n use the stainless paint i got from CARS. woohoo

then im goin to clean out the engine bay and blacken it out also. so im stoked

    ty ty

good thing on the pics... got some paint on er tonight. intake buttoned up.. got the exhaust mans off as well... some kind awesome person put BRASS nuts on the studs :beers2: u ever been to Dayton ohio Doc?? seems like a Doc kinda thing to do

here pics thus far. man its turnin out so sweeet:bglasses:
goin to stainless the exhaust mans tomorrow let em sit over night then set them on the barrel stove to cure.. figger thats heat enough hotter than the motor gets anyways :)

Im still tossing around the plan for the headers. i REALLY want to go with a dual exhaust. was checkin out a set of shorty headers on ebay for the 401 nailer they are like 3something i think...:Dou:
thought about using the stock manifolds and runnin dualies off of those.. but that would just look gay (no offense if u happen to be gay) i dont know. its not like im ready to drive it down the road with interior n seats out... though i have gave that thought once motor is back in

ive got to go over the black on the lifter cover with a small brush once the green dries guess im not as steady as i once was :Dou:
well check out the pics hope it looks good to everyone as it does to me lol

    engine bay comming together

here are a few pics of the engine bay to show the repaint textured and i also re wrapped the wiring harness from firewall to headlights.

anyone have the top generator bracket for this 401?? the person that had it i guess added a piece onto the arm they had to make the generator tighten up and clear the valve cover on the right bank. :ball:

id like to get one to put on it if i can?? i suppose i could cut it off and weld it back together so it is one piece but it looks like they bent the stock one all around so it would work for their customization:Dou:

Still putting off pulling the trans not sure why but i have been. early in the week i have to get it out so i can clean er up n get ready for the external seal up kit... wnt to get the motor set back in there so its off the stand asap.

stock exhaust manifolds are cleaned up now and painted the stainless from CARS. pretty snazzy. :bglasses:

    thanks

    Dynaflow tear down

here are the pics of the tear down of the dynaflow.

i noticed some gold flecks or dust in the pan and filter i took pics of everything so you all can have a look and give me your opinions:laugh:
i notiecd wear onthe one copper?? shim in the converter during disassembly. Im not sure if this is normal wear for a trans with 54K on it or not?
i never drove the ar alot so im not sure if it slips on the highway or not??
it took me awhile to get used to the "slip" feeling before the trans kicks in but ws told that is normal for the dynaflow it is how it works??????

anyhow... do i go ahead and rebuild the trans with 54k on it since i have it this far with the master rebuild kit from CARS?? or just get the external seal kit and run it??

    thanks for the insight everyone..

    bill
