There's not much more to know! What do you mean by "good"? It's just a 1971 325 hp Pontiac 455! What more is there? Devon
I think a good question of you, is what do you intend to do with the engine? It's a 455. It'll give you plenty of power if that's what you're looking for, build it for the power level you want. If you're looking for good gas mileage, forget it. What is your intended purpose?
Is this gasket kit good for that motorhttp://cgi.ebay.com/Fel-Pro-Full-Overhaul-Gasket-Set-Kit-400-455-Pontiac-/120598151639?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c1435c1d7
Yes, the Fel-Pro kit is a quality set. Here are some Pontiac guys talking about the YC block. Seems like they're not afraid to build one to 600 hp, even with two bolt main caps. http://www.pontiaczone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21759 Devon
This motor is just to put around town in the summer maybe i should leave it the way it is because it is running good as it is thanks Denis,
It is an 8.0 - 1 compression so it will run on present unleaded gas. It may require premium but try regular first. Just don't advance the spark too much or Mr. Spark knock will show up. It is a 325 hp gross engine. Used in Bonnevilles, Catalinas, GP's, T-37, LeMans and GTO. It does have hardened valve seats but if you are going push it then plan on hardened valve seats. It was designed, as was all GM engines in '71, to run on low lead and then in '75 unleaded was mandated. Don't rev beyond about 5K as it won't make power above 4800 or so. Have fun. Try the performance years web site for more info.
Google.com in 15 seconds: http://www.google.com/search?source...source=hp&q=pontiac+455+torque+specifications Keep in mind that the connecting rod caps have to stay with their repective rods, don't mix them up. Same with cam & lifters if you plan to reuse them - lifters must go back on the lobes they came from. Devon
Hi, would this kit fit my motor even they are tall valve cover thanks. http://cgi.ebay.com/MCC165164T-455-...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35a7f54273
They'll fit the engine but you may run into a clearance problem with the power brake booster with the tall covers.
