I still have it. There is someone in Seattle that I am working with to have some additional work done to the car...then it will probably go up there. I can't keep them all!
Soooo, I'm keeping it. I had to sacrifice the Limited, though. o No: (I'll fill in the details in the Limited thread) Work has started on the Roadmaster "Laurel." (Thanks Alan!) Headlight switch has been removed, disassembled, cleaned and reinstalled. All dash lights work now, with the exception of a couple burned out in the gauge cluster. The top of the dash board is out to gain access to the pad itself so I can rebuild the foam padding under the vinyl. The engine has been given a tune up, and runs ok. Definitely needs a carb rebuild, and it might have some exhaust valve issues. I will remove the heads when I do the engine compartment this Spring.
Nice! I've seen worse specimens that were 40 years younger. You've done well. I better not show my wife, she'll want it just for the color, which I also think is nice.
Laurel is a beauty. Nice find. I love how you are jumping in and making her even better. Looking forward to you new stories.
Ok, dash pad is off to Mr. Upholster to have the padding rebuilt. Meanwhile, I have redyed the top of the dash pad and repainted the trim pieces that frame it. I feel like I did a bunch more work than that, but now that I look back at it...that's all I have done The pad should be finished before the Easter show on March 31. I guess I need to redye the small padded bits on the glove box and the face of the dash, too. "While I'm at it...." Redye the carpet black, paint the package shelf... Doesn't look like the paint will get buffed before the show, though. I'll have to save that fun little project for later, along with the engine compartment and chassis detail.
Wow Adam... You swapped the Limited for a Roadmaster ?? Let me check the Limited thread to understand more about this :ball: Edit: I hope to see the car at Power Big Meet (the biggest 3-day American car show in the world) when it's finished :TU: Good to read that it's going to Sweden, they are the best in the world when it comes to restoring old American cars :Smarty:
It looks like the buyer already has a Limited coupe that is silver. Young guy... Hopefully his intentions for the car are good!
that car has come a long way since you bought it, i was following the progress on the centurion board for awhile, good luck with the new addition, see you soon.
While I wait for the dash pad to get finished up, I pulled the carb off to ream it out. Good thing I did, because it was rough. It's still not pretty, but the idle is better. #5 cylinder has a burned exhaust valve, so the idle isn't perfect, but it is tolerable for now until I pull the heads.
A 58 parts car is listed in my area and I wanted to let you know in case you need something from it. http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/452357?ad_cid=9
How does that dash pad look? Is the vinyl cracked up? The padding looks like it hasn't started sagging. I can redye it if I need to, but the vinyl has to be in decent shape. I just tried to re-pad mine, but it doesn't look good enough for my taste. There are lots of good parts on the car... I need the right rear door sweepspear trim. Also the right side headlight eyebrow trim that goes on the edge of the fender and wraps to the sweepspear. How about the little brass fitting that is on top of the intake manifold in front of the carburetor? I have a major overheating issue, and I hope I have it fixed well enough for now...since I have a big show tomorrow.
I have tried to get away from work to check out the parts car but no luck. If you are interested in parts call the number on the listing and see if they will work with you. Contact: Bruce (435) 770-3033 1958 Buick Roadmaster Avon, UT | Posted March 29, 2013 $100
My weekend progress report... I didn't get a photo tonight, but this was earlier today during the thrash session. Here are some shiny new bits from the weekend... Why must every heater core I pull out look like this? ...never fails.
Nope, it's just paint...I would plate everything that is supposed to be, but it's too inconvenient for me.
Yep, I understand that. I repainted my hood latch with silver paint. I've got a new one that's been sandblasted. I think I'll paint it, too. I hope it comes out looking as good as yours....
I had a couple inches of play in the steering wheel...I know why, now. I've never seen a rag joint break into pieces before.
