The Ghosts of what once were. It was a great ride.

Funny.. I have never seen this picture, but it does explain why Jerry had me build the new engine with a yellow painted engine block.. that red looks out of place..

Jim, maybe the yellow block should go in a red GSX?

What an amazing thread. I would like to do this type of a restoration one day. that time line though...ouch.
Lightning fast. the photos were nice as it really explains the detail involved in doing it right.
The sale at the end was perfect for this story. I have restored and built a lot of things. boats, custom golf carts, off road buggies ect.
sold every one of them. sold a off road rail to some guy and years later a friend show up in the desert with it.
    good job

Thanks Joe, my hope is this thread can help someone else restore there car and see that even a novice can do it. Just leave things that are beyond you to someone else to save your health and money in the long run.

Dave, curious on your evaluation of the other QQ 4 speed x at mecum

Good car but the attention to detail wasn't there, lots of missing/wrong components. The block stamping was questionable. The welded flow master exhaust bothered me the most

with any well respected auction if a miss documented car was exposed all funds would be returned cmon # matching 4speed x that needs pipes something isn't adding up

They go by what the owner tells them. It was a nice car, but the yellow top auto zone battery, wrong radiator, wrong radiator cap, heater valve backwards, wrong hood insulation. I don't know how it got concourse gold like that.....

I studied it closely because I wanted to get a gauge on how it was compared to Dave's car.

If I see simple things overlooked I really begin to worry about other things that may have been missed. I am no expert and the other car at Mecum was beautiful but it just showed why Dave's car/my old car ended up selling for more money when it's wasn't even matching numbers. It's about attention to detail, most people spending six figures want a perfect car not a 95% car.

Most of the problems on that other X could be fixed. The VIN really bothered me however.. Never see one like that.
