Yea that was the only clip I had saved. The do get a little drone at just the right rpm cruise. I dont have a tach so couldnt tell ya when. But i like the idle Sound and they have a nice scream when opening it up. They are a straight thru design. Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
Superturbos have a nice idle . they are louder then most turbos bit seems you want something abit more noisey. Any think welded may work but will have that echo like ring ( flowmaster like sound). Borla isn't a very loud muff either. Can't wait to see his loud my magnaflos are.
I think it's gonna be either the mangaflows or the ultraflos. Something like $87 vs $70. From what I understand, it seems like they are almost identical in construction except for maybe the packing material.. And if I still am unsatisfied with how it sounds, Then maybe I'll have to consider something chambered like those summits. Hopefully not though
The best compromise of exhaust note/noise is such a subjective thing for most people. I don't think even a video can really be telling. Maybe asking around at a local cruise meet so you can hear it first hand is a good idea. That is how i chose the 14264 Magnaflow mufflers I currently run. I don't like a loud raspy tone like Flomasters. That gets old really fast, and drone will drive you nuts in an even shorter time. I wanted a muffler with a reasonably deep tone that was relatively quiet at cruise, but screamed when you really got on it. My previous Walker 17749 mufflers were like that, and so are the Magnaflows. Absolutely no drone. My system is a full 3" X pipe system with MT Headers.
Didn't those Walkers' get a good write up in the GS/Extra as being the ones that gave the most HP to the motor and being real quiet at the same time? I know I read about this in there just was not sure if it was the Walkers' or not. May have to dig out the back issues to look for it.
The Dynomax don't seem to slow the vehicles down as much (I've used quite a few), and are much easier on the ears than the flowmaster-jones types. The fully offset ones' flow director seems to work better than the center/offset ones. I don't have track data any longer, this stuff has been around a long while
I backtrack the threads as I knew I wrote about it some where and the Dynomax #17547 were the quietest and gave the Most HP from the motor. This was with the 3" system so I am sure there is a 2 1/2 inch version. The Flowmasters took the most Hp from the motor. If I find the original article I will try to post as there were others tested.
I have it on my computer as a pdf, but it is too large to post here. Yes, Walker Stainless 17547 was the winner along with the Stainless Works custom 3" mufflers. They lost 7.2-7.5 HP and 8.1-8.4 HP respectively. My Magnaflow 14264 came in 3rd with a 9.6 HP loss, and 4th with a 10.2 HP loss for the Pypes mufflers.
^^Agreed. Not overthinking. Definitely subjective depending on if you're trying to muffle a huge beast or milder engine. Another thing to note is whether or not the internal diameter is actually maintained (maybe mentioned somewhere already). Some of the 3" muffs neck down inside.
older thread ....but it needs an older article https://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-9812-2-quarter-inch-exhaust-3-inch-exhaust/ both worlds ....on my 350 (380hp -hopefully more ) I am contemplating 3" out of headers into 3" X pipe and then cone it down just before the 2.5" long case mufflers and tail pipes out the n-25's
As you can see by your article, very little to no gain in power and torque over a 2.5 system, and dyno starts above 4500. So low end torque is probably down also. 3 inch would not gain any thing unless you rev that engine to 7000
LOL, I have that issue right next to me, its volume 39, winter 2017, number 2 I read the article, that how I decided on the Dynomax 17222's (2.5") Same inside dia. as the 3" 17229 They're louder than my old 17749's, but tolerable
who said cutouts ? maybe ......cutouts before the x pipe .....just to make me feel young and let her exhale once in a while
Just dropping in, im pretty much in this guys boat. I have a basically stock 72 4door skylark, recently overhauled the entire engine, still waitin on new master cylinder, i have a new vacuum timing advance arrived today. I also have a small exhaust leak on my driver side exhaust pipe, its patched for the moment. I plan to just replace that completely and put in dual exhaust, since im repairing I may as well make it sound better and get a little more airflow.
