Growing up with them, I am a diehard early musclecar fan. That said, I am totally into this 'new generation' of factory muscle. How long it will last is anyone's guess. I certainly remember the '70's and later "Sticker and stripe" anemic wheezers that were sold as factory hotrods. This latest batch are the real deal again.
I purchased this new 2016 A8 Hellcat for 14k under sticker just northwest of Chicago last Saturday. In addition to the automatic transmission, it has Brass Monkey wheels, summer tires, and the obvious stripes plus the not so obvious gas guzzler tax. Hey, I made it back into northern Kentucky on the full tank of gas the dealer provided. The dealer has another one for 14k off but it has the sunroof. If anyone is interested send me a PM>
A buddy of mine got a black one last fall. It's sweet don't get me wrong. But he got it to replace the Viper GTR he sold before he got his divorce. That Viper was pretty rad. I considered buying a Hellcat at one time. But if I was going to spend that kind of coin, I'd have to get a crew cab pick up instead. This isn't an issue with 3 kids, 1 on the way, and a single income any how. So I just dream.
Thanks Guy. I've got a long learning curve ahead but I am quite impressed by it so far. Of course, being a Dodge, my build quality bar was "lowered and ready" LOL.
A customer of my just bought a black on black 6 speed. He said it's was just a little more than a 2017 Hemi. About 16k off sticker.
Yes, you can get even more off of a manual car. There are a lot of sunroof cars left too, but an automatic with a solid roof is not so plentiful. I had a list of about 30 cars that I was watching covering most of the nation. A loaded SRT 392 can be mid 50's, so that is a true statement.
Here is a deal for someone... $20k off sticker... https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...ius=500&makeCode1=DODGE&modelCode1=CHALLENGER
Must be that "common core" math... Still $14k off, but not as good a deal as the ad makes it out to be...
Mike, I noticed some of the dealers do things like that on purpose. They also list rebates in the prices that don't apply then add fine print at the bottom of the page. Hard to believe, right?
The Scat Pack cars are probably the smarter choice but I never claimed to be the smartest guy. I haven't floored my cat yet due to sheer respect for what could happen and the break in period. The tires do seem terribly out matched. I've read about cars getting loose at 100, and have no reason to believe that couldn't happen after visiting approximately 3/4 throttle. The automatic transmission is actually impressing me as much as the engine. There is no way I would want the 6 speed, it simply has to be a lesser experience as far as I'm concerned. This is a very entertaining Hellcat road trip video:
Hellcat yeah that's a good deal Chris. Usually PCP cars are well above, not well below, the market. Apparently your skills reach beyond the Buick realm LOL
challys by canuks in canada, hemis frm USA,but 8 spd frm GERMANY go figure?????what a supply chain eh,good thing you bought one now, cafe standards will kick in during this or next admin.Dodge build qual not that much diff domestic/import to matter after all you did not buy a ferrari ,lambo FYI,HAVE FUN AND DRIVE THIS ONE !!!
I was at the Roadkill event in Pontiac a couple weeks ago and I want the new Jeep Trackhawk. I wonder if my wife would notice the power in her daily commute to the train station in the family hauler.
Those are great cars and most people would love to own one. But me? If I wanted to spend a bunch of money to get 800 HP, I'd just buy a super cherry Grand National ($20K?) and build an 800 HP motor for it (another $20K?). Hell, you could go all the way and make it a GNX for another $30K or so. There's a shop down here in Central Florida that is turning out 700-800 HP GNs that are running 9s at the track and are very street-able with all accessories working. And, they get 20 MPG on the highway. For half the money "wouldn't you really rather have a Buick"?
