When I bought this 67 Special it was warm so I didn’t notice but there is air leaking when the side windows are shut. I noticed that the rubber seals sort of change shape towards the front of the door opening and that is where it is leaking. I assume these are repro seals. Are the seals supposed to be like this? Are they maybe incorrect? I’m not sure why they are like this.
Always make sure the weatherstrip is locked into the metal channel on both sides of the weatherstrip. You can use a credit card to tuck it into the channel and work your way around. Yours looks like it may be suffering from this issue at that point. Larry
X2! One lip is bent a tad on mine(72GS) that I couldnt see from eyeball level, but look underneath and WOOMP DAY IT IS! ws
I did check that and I don't think that's the issue. It's the way the seal is actually molded. I tried putting a small piece of foam in the channel to push the rubber seal towards the glass and it helped a little. But still not making a good seal. I will try to get a better picture of it.
Is your car a hardtop or a sedan? (thats window frame attached to the doors or not). A hardtop is pretty easy to adjust the glass if you are satisfied with the door alignment. Sometimes the sedans needed a little persuasion as in a block of wood at the door jamb pin and push in on the window frame. Two different animules ! ws
It’s a hardtop. Glass seems to fit good except for this one part of the seal. I think it can be seen better in this pic. Same issue on both left and right doors.
Am I seeing a slot in the rubber from the corner to about 4" aft of the wing window with the glass all the way up in pic #2? The first pic shows the same slot running down the front run as well? I think Larry is correct that you have the wrong gasket in place. Theres that and if youll look at my pic #1 youll see the glass guide (altho the rubber/plastic coating is long gone) that helps guide the glass into position. On mine the coating is gone, so theyll need cleaning and probably some shrink tubing, or a dab of a brush full of that liquid screw driver handle coating in a can stuff. I have 4 on mine; two on each side. One is about 2" back from the front corner and the rear one is maybe 2" forward of the F/R window joint. I know the stuff aint cheap (even the cheap stuff LOL!) but Ive found that brands do vary on this stuff. ws
No I just bought this car a few months ago and they were on there. They look fairly new but I'm also thinking they may be incorrect. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket seal?
Yes the slot runs down the front A pillar also. I did not see any guide in this area of the seal. I only saw them near the rear side window joint.
Trivia question: anyone remember a power vent window that ran up and down? NOT on a contemporary swivel? ws
BINGO.... thought I was flippin' out for a second! Thats kinda what that weatherstripping reminds me of. Are the bases loaded or is it a triple play??? ws
That is odd looking. I'm thinking maybe took out a damaged section and fused it to the original, correct section. The correct being the one with the channel. I think Steele makes the best but if you're looking budget then soffseal will work well enough.
I have a 67gs and the seal is not made like that.The seal is the same the whole top of door.It does not have that indentation.
I ordered new seals from soffseal. 66-67 A body Skylark. Guess what they have the same “defect.” I guess I already had soffseal on my car. So now will take a gamble on the next reproduction company. Gotta love it.
They may not be defective, .... could be a packaging problem. There may be a whole inventory of that particular item mislabeled. Just a thought. Larry
