Window seals leaking air

Call them and talk to a techie! Have him pull another set and also one set for a Chevelle, Ponch, or Gutless. Send him an email with the pic(s) attached so you dont sound un-informed. The chinaman saw #132 which is almost #123... how much difference can there be??? ws

 

I will call them. These are labeled for all A bodies, chevelle, GTO, cutlass, skylark.

 

The previous owner painted this car 10 years ago so these seals could be 10 years old. There has to be other people out there with the same problem.

 

I called Soffseal tech support and they said I need to adjust the glass. They don't think the problem is the seal. I don't see how I could because the glass goes all the way up into the top near the vent window. I don't imagine it could go any higher?

 

I'm curious about this. My 65 does not look like this.
Not sure at all what's going on here.

Two thoughts: call Steele. They are American and may know better.

If all else fails, maybe the 64-65 seal would work better? I don't understand how changing from the groove to solid i the middle of the window would help.

I have Softseal's on my car and they look just like the ones you have. I don't have any wind noise problems like you're experiencing. Maybe you need to adjust your up-window stops slightly or somehow shim the rubber to get it closer to the glass. I went and took a couple shots of mine just for comparison to yours. Later today, I'm going to go by my Buddies garage and take a couple shots of his original weather seals on his '67 GTO, just to see how those compare. Meanwhile, here's how mine look.............

 

Thanks Nick. At least now I know I can try to work with the seal I have. I had already tried shimming the rubber to push it towards the glass and while it helped slightly, it's still pretty noisy. There must be something going on with my door or window adjustment. Do you know if the vent window frame is adjustable? I wonder why the seal is shaped like that because it seems to really expose the top of the glass there.

I remember somebody talking about these seals when I first got my Skylark. But I can't think for the life of my why they would have made such a design. The change in rubber is so far behind the vent window.

 

I could do that when I get a chance to get back to where my car is stored. I should have done that while I was there, duh!

I did get a couple of shots of my Buds' original '67 GTO seals. They're pretty cracked up and very brittle but you can see that the aftermarket seals are not quite the same as OEM's.
Why these repop vendors can't make stuff exactly like the original parts is beyond me. Why bother reproducing something unless it's exactly the same? Pretty frustrating with a lot of this stuff.

 

I see what you mean. Not quite the same. I wonder if the Metro seals are any better?

 

I purchased all Metro weather stripping for 72 recently. Below is for a 67 Skylark. Rockauto was half the price!!!

Hmm. That really doesn't look all the different from mine. I'm going to try to wedge something behind the seal to push it out a little more and see if that works. Thank you!

 

Steele would probably be my last resort due to the price. I think they are around $140 for the pair. And I agree I don't understand the reason for the grooved area either.

 

Im gonna ad something that may sound stupid; Could that be an additional drip edge to help keep rain water out from an open vent window? GM engineering did some detail oriented stuff back then, It aint yer daddy's dodge! ws

 

Just to follow up on this, I wedged a small section (couple inches long) of vacuum hose (small, maybe 1/8 or 1/4"?) between the seal and the inside of the metal roofline track and the wind noise is almost completely gone. It's much better.
