OK, looks like I've got enough interest to make the investment in having him make about a dozen pairs. That would fill everyone here that has expressed interest and leave a few sets spare. I'll get him started and I know he'll do it for $25 but I'm going to see what his costs are before I price them. It might be a little lower. Plus, if they ship easily in a small padded envelope, that will keep shipping costs to a minimum.
OK, he says he can make that if it is flat. Do you feel comfortable shipping it to me to be modeled? I'll return it with a prototype but it may take a week. Your other choice is the trace out the outline, marking the holes and marking it with measurements for spacing so he can model it but it might not be as accurate.
It's on my car at the moment. Maybe next week I'll take it off and send it out. Unless someone else with one steps up?
Wow, this is going better than I expected. Neither my friend nor I do this for a living so it is a bit of trial and error. He's the maker and I'm the test/package/ship/finance person. The ABS should be in this weekend and he's going to make a set for me to test fit again. If that pans out, I'll start contacting people. So far I have 7 people that have expressed interest in 9 sets. If you want a set and are not on the list, please post here and I'll add you and mark shipped/delivered as it progresses. I'll put a link in the first post to this one. I've moved the list to Shade Tree Mechanic as it is more appropriate there. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/3d-printed-mirror-gasket-project.334133/ I'm going to consult the shipping experts at work to see what they recommend for assured delivery in undamaged condition. I'm thinking USPS priority mail with a tracking number at a minimum. Tentative price is $25 a pair, actual shipping costs. Those that buy more than 1 set should save shipping but I'm hoping it isn't much to ship them at all. OK, no worries.
I have a 70 tri shield mirror with original shim. ....keep your car together , I'll mail em mine. Sending pm/ conversation to Knucklebusted.....Jim
I asked Jim W about this. Can I get a mod to move this to Shade Tree Mechanic since it has turned from a query to actual small production?
I'm needing a wedge type one for a chrome mirror. Like Bretts gasket but thicker on one side...Any chance he could do this?
Maybe. Can you take a few pics, one top down and another from the front and side? I'll show my guy to see if he's willing to take on another project. If he agrees, it would be best to ship it to me to let him model it and return it with a prototype.
Waiting on Brett to reply. I purchased one from him...a flat one like he wants remade. If it's ok with you and him I'll send the one I have(if it's the same as he wants) and get you the info you need on mine... Thanks, Todd
DasRottweiler is sending me a flat gasket. If that is what you need, then we are covered. I'll keep that updated in this thread as well. At this time I'd like to get these two projects underway before we jump into anything else. My friend and I both have regular jobs so I don't want to get too strung out with too many irons in the fire.
Ok on the flat one. I need a wedge type to get the mirror I have to fit level on my car. A flat gasket installed puts my mirror at a downward angled direction. I can wait. Have a whole list of other needs before tackling the mirror
OK, so, you need a flat one or are you waiting for a custom model? It is not too difficult to make one but it is going to have to wait until we have the rest of it lined out.
