Hey Ivan I ran across some info and pics regarding the crankshaft and heads I donated to your project... 9 Years ago I yanked a great running Buick 350 out of a car I was parting out due to rust... Here is the engine running in these video, it is bone stock and has 35,000 miles on it. The car was owned by an old guy and it rusted out under the vinyl roof from too much rain in the area and not being garaged. After I pulled the engine I sat it on the engine stand, removed the plugs, and squirted in a bunch of engine oil then rotated it over a few times and put the plugs back in. This engine was stored at my parents house which is 1200 KM or about 800 miles away from me over a snow covered mountain. Leanne and I were going back home for X mass anyways so instead of flying like we normally would we decided to drive and take back this engine and some other stuff. My truck was in the shop getting a lift kit so I decided to stuff the Buick 350 in my wives SUV. The first trick to this is not telling her it was a complete engine.... They are just "Engine parts" that happen to be a complete engine together LOL... Bought some rubbermade containers, tore it down and loaded it up. About half way home she looked at me and said? Those car parts are heavy I can feel the weight. And although I miss the crank, at least it went to a good home and into a bad assed stroker setup!
Lol, man that must have been loud with the exhaust echoing off of everything. Greatly appreciate the parts Sean, couldn't have finished it without them.
Ok, so Haydn took his car to the Friday Night Street Races, at our local track. (Season Opener) We talked about the lights on the tree, how to stage, when to leave, etc, etc. First run was his best. 13.649 @ 102.59 mph. (0.734 rt, and 2.269 60') Spinning off the line...rear tires aired down to 20psi. 2nd run: 13.873 @ 102.19 mph. Making a sandwich at the tree, and then spinning almost to the 60' (dropped pressure down to 18 psi on the rear tires. 3rd run: 14.1 @ 101 mph, spinning past the 60' (cooled off, and nothing was hooking up) This was his elimination round, and was knocked out. (13.5 dial-in time) I will try to get the slips posted tomorrow, as they are in his car. And I will try to load the videos as well. Oh...he did say that the engine was raving at 5500 rpm out the top end of the track. (Rev limiter set at 6K)
I say this because alot of people don't know, you may and if so disregard, but don't worry about the light just monitor the cars rpm and try different launch techniques and shift points etc then work on cutting a light. Clock doesn't start till you break the beam. What's your track elevation?
One of the biggest issues was off the line traction/tire spin. Could not load up on the converter at all, as it blows the tires off. Each run is basically, foot off the brake, and apply pressure to gas pedal...which ment, to the floor. Anything he tried, resulted in wheel spin.
Yes, I do know that. Our track is at 2500 feet. I explained that to Haydn as well. Told him that it didn't matter how long you sit at the green light, the timer only starts when you break the beams. I also said, "You are used to hearing your car's engine rev/sound...but with a helmet on, you won't hear your car, so keep checking your tach...your car could have stalled, and all you hear is the car beside you, and when the light turns green, your wondering why your not going anywhere." The other thing I explained to him was bracket racing... If they match you with a car that has a 15 second dial in, and yours is a 13.5.... he gets a second and a half of a heads start...and the only thing you are doing is watching them leave you at the line...wanting to chase after them. Don't worry about them, run your own race. Your just trying to see what your car can do, and how to make it faster.
Hey Larry, Cooper Cobras, 295/50 r15 aired down to 18 psi. Every pass got slower and slower. (Cooled off a lot since his first pass.)
You'll never hook it with street tires. You need sticky tires. Put some MT ET Drag Radials on it and it will hook. When you hook that car, the 60' will drop along with the ET, and the trap speed may drop a bit because you won't be spinning.
I was worried about the gearing too...along with the small tire height, I thought it would be bouncing off the limiter at the top end. I couldn't imagine an open rear end...20 second et!
