How to scrap car bodies without a title.

I have found a 67 body that looks like it has some good parts on it. The problem comes along in that after I take off the chrome, bumpers and fenders, how do you get rid of the shell?

The person has this broken down body that hasn't moved in years and has no title.
If I buy it, scrap yards insist on a title to buy it.

So how do you go about getting rid of a derelict after it has been stripped?

Are you sure about needing a title? In this state, we don't need a title or bill of sale to take them to the scrapper. Just haul it down, sign the papers, and away you go. It's kind of a sketchy deal and I guess in theory you could haul down a stolen vehicle, but it's a small enough city and the scrappers are honest enough to weed out anything fishy.

Not an issue in SC once the vehicle is of a certain age, I believe its 20yrs old. Bill of sale should be sufficient for an old car

I called a scrap metal yard today and they said they can't take it without a title or some government document. I asked about a bill of sale and he said no, anybody can write that, take the bill of sale, go to dmv, get a title, then come scrap it.
I mean, come on, do I have to fill my acetylene tank and cut it into 2 foot pieces?

Sawzall and a few extra blades will do the trick .just use ear protection

    Yes, you do in Michigan.
Cost is prohibitive to aquire a title in Michigan. As you have to get a surity bonded title.
Costs more for the title than what you will get for scrap.
Just went through this. Between sawzall and the gas axe, cut into pieces and hauled in as scrap metal.

As I understand it here in Hamilton County (Chattanoga) TN scrap yards won’t take it without a title. Not sure if that’s state wide rule or local ordinance. I agree that a sawzall and extra blades should turn your “car body” into “manageable pieces”.

Get some friends over with a couple of Sawz All's and spend 1/2 a day making it into smaller pieces . Then take to the metal recycling place and get a couple of Bucks .

Like many have posted already. Cut it up!!! you might even get more for it in pieces then you would as a whole.

    Hi,

Sawzall is the least amount of headaches, unless you have a scrap guy that might take it.

Put it on craigslist as scrap metal and some creature will come pick it up and will deal with it. Otherwise cut it in half. Which is really not as fun as it seems. Not even close actually.

That explains why there are so many old scrap cars sitting in fields when scrap prices are high. Either they can't get rid of them, or someone thinks that they will be worth a fortune when they start to become more of a part of the earth.

Donate it to the local fire department. We used to get cars donated to us when I was a fireman and we'd train using the extrication tools on them (jaws of life). Plus, it's a tax write off then.

So. How did you get rid of the remains without a title? That is the OP's question.

As I said in post #2, you don't need a title or even a bill of sale here in Montana. I'm thinking that he might be able to donate to the local fire department and wash his hands of it.

Georgia requires a title to accompany a scrapped vehicle. Its a no-go without one.

I doubt any local entity around here would want to be burdened with a car they didn't have a legal title to. It's not simple in this state. Even buying a car from another state to license here is a problem.
