I’m relocating due to everything going south after Hurricane Michael. I intended on towing my 1970 GS on a Penske car carrier, however they flipped out when I made the reservation and wouldn’t allow me to reserve the car trailer since their system doesn’t understand older cars...it tells them it’s too big & too heavy...I find that difficult to fathom, as I had no issues bringing my 2011 Mustang down here on one in January, which is only a few hundred pounds lighter, and definitely a large coupe. Has anyone else here used them to trailer their A-body?
From what I understand, you have to tell them its for a late model car then your good to go. Tell them its a new Challenger. Those things weigh more than a loaded GS
Some Uhaul stores won't rent a trailer unless you have a 1 ton truck either , it varies by location with them.
I’ll be renting a 22-foot Moving Truck, so it’ll be fine for pulling the GS. I tried using a 1994 Roadmaster also, instead of the GS, and was also told it wouldn’t fit... Yeah, the Challenger suggestion is a good one...
I have towed from NC to Ohio with my 71 on a Penske trailer. They never asked what I was towing. You will have to tow the trailer with Penske equipment.
The Challenger measures out 4” longer wheelbase, 2” narrower, 2”shorter length overall than what I could find for a 1970 Skylark...so it may be a good comparison. https://www.autobytel.com/dodge/challenger/2012/specifications/ http://www.automobile-catalog.com/m...rk_3gen/skylark_3gen_2-door_hardtop/1970.html
I had a similar issue from uhaul, it wouldn’t let me rent with my Buick info in there but allowed me with a chevelle so I just went with that. I figure so many people confuse it already so what are they going to say? There may be some insurance liability by putting in something wildly different.
I’m pretty sure physically it’ll fit fine https://www.pensketruckrental.com/supplies-and-services/towing-equipment/
I've used U-Haul 3 tines now . First time they told me my 76 Avanti was too wide . Luckily the manager had a brain and changed it so I could rent it . I did have to tell him the wheelbase and track width of it . Since then they consider me a frequent user . The last time I had a 69 Electra Convertible on their trailer . Rear wheels of the Electra were at the end of the trailer I have had no problems pulling their car carrier with my 2000 Silverado 2500
Would any misrepresentation given to the rental company regarding the vehicle be material and thereby affect insurance coverage that you may otherwise have had?
Wrong . Be Honest . What if something happened . It wouldn't have to be you . Some nitwit could crash into you or the trailer
Your insurance covers anything attached to your truck And in SC for example insurance follows the driver, not the vehicle, so whatever you sit you your butt in carries whatever coverage you have
When I first purchased my Featherlite trailer,my insurance told me if it's attached to my tow vehicle,it's covered. I also have separate policies on my trailer like a full coverage insurance on them. The only issue I would have is if the trailer were attached to someone else's vehicle. Then it would go on to the insurance of the borrowers insurance. That is why I don't lend my trailers to anyone..
Yes that is true but what if they find out you told the trailer rental company you were trailering a completely different vehicle ????
