I have no words but one question... the motor was balanced with this BHJ damper, can a different damper be used without balancing it. Max rpm 5600. Cheers!
Looks like it came loose. I'd check the crank snout too. Is the engine external balanced? If so it's a maybe. All you can do is try it.
Like Dan said, definitely check the crank. If its internal balance you can replace it with another internal balance without a problem. But it looks like its an external balancer.
Look at how pounded-out the keyway is. That thing was rattling around on the crank snout. IF (big IF) the damper bolt was properly-tight, and the damper ID/crank OD is correct for a proper damper-to-crank fit, you would be wise to trust nothing in the rotating assembly, and to inspect for signs of detonation. SOMETHING is shaking the fukk out of that damper.
I would still have it all checked, make sure no stress cracks. I better the crank snout looks just as bad. might have the have the snout knurled to make sure the next one fits correctly
Maybe that explains the wobbling pulley? http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/bbb-wobbly-pully.340335/
I would pull the timing cover and inspect the crank snout. Just pulled my good running engine down but leaky to a short block and inspecting for damage before reassembly w a couple upgrades. Good luck man.
sometimes different dampner require a different length bolt to have good thread engagement. learned this the hard way on my first romac, didnt have enough threads and stripes them out, luckily I was able the thread chase and get to the rest of the threads in the crank and get a longer bolt. if not it would had require going up to the next size. make sure you use a proper instlling tool. some of these aftermarket unit have more press fit than the stk unit does making them harder to install. if you try to use the thread and bolt to pull the dampner on problems can occur
Ordering my stock replacement tomorrow from TA. And a new seal. But you need to inspect your crank snout. Might need a crank from looking at your balancer. Mine slip fits easy but smooth. Will see how new one fits.
