Still the best deal in town when you really think about it. Less than $3.00 to travel 15 or more miles depending on your mode of transport.
I’m in the business and most of the money is made before it gets to your local station. The market is so volatile these days when compared to years ago. Product cost goes up in chunks. Prices drop slowly since you don’t want to sell the gas in your tanks for less than you paid for it. A few cents per gallon goes to pay for your points/miles/rebates from your bank credit card as credit card fees are very high.
You've only done a small portion of the math equation. You've assumed that the vehicle cost nothing to buy, drive, insure, or maintain. Granted, the difference between 2.50 and 3.00 for gas is only a small part of the equation.
Date Nominal Price Inflation Adjusted Gas Price 1969 $0.35 $2.26 1970 $0.36 $2.19 1971 $0.36 $2.10 1972 $0.36 $2.04
Hi all, 3.69 in MI yesterday Guess they think we all got our tax return, and they figured they'd help us spend it, lol Saw a thing on the news yesterday blaming on summer gas production and maintenance lowering production Regards,
Hi again, Regular 87 octane, 55 miles north of Detroit We always seem to be higher than the national average Regards,
No shortage of crude supply. As the switch is made from winter blend to summer blend, that is where the "shortage in supply" comes from. (Similar to retooling a machine to make something and production stops for a time.) The process of the switch decreases supply, so the price is driven up. I believe media helps drive the price up further, but that is just my opinion. Supply is measurable, consumer perception is not. Thank goodness for competition! jj
Maybe this is an area that needs price controls so we aren't taken advantage of seasonally or based on media...... Another thing lower income areas seem to pay less maybe that is a good thing. My sister in CT pays about .75 more than someone in rural Alabama
I think this is mainly because of the different states taxes on the gasoline. CT probably has a much higher state gasoline tax than Alabama.
Still at $2.35 here for 87 as of this morning. Non-ethanol 91 octane was $3.05 yesterday when I got gas.
Just did a 300 mile trip thru eastern PA yesterday . Lowest was $2.67 near Philly highest was $2.89 near Scranton .
I don't get where you are going with that> My point is that the difference of 50 cents a gallon makes little difference in the overall cost of driving in MOST cases.
