This might help for the bulbs: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/want-led-bulb-climate-control.338657/
I went to a cabinent shop and picked out some vinier and shaped it and urathane glossed it for my center councle. I went to a lighter wood recently that I just stripped off an old wood partition from a remodle job at a store. I think you can make your own better than what fir the most part is out there.
The console woodgrain isn't the issue. The dash woodgrain is where are the complexities are ... intricate shapes, curves and angles on the various dash pieces plus the matching of the letters and translucency of the HVAC panel.
Both Kevin and Jeff at CARS had no idea what I was talking about with this. I sent him a photo of the correct font stuff, and a comparison photo with what they are advertising. He is going to call me back.
Just got off the phone with Jeff. There is an updated one they are selling...he is sending me a photo in a bit.
Lettering looks good, not sure about the woodgrain........ I did have to trim a little bit on the ones I used on my car around the wiper switch and lighter side. I got mine from Mark Reeves. Maybe they all need tweaking of some sort?
You need to compare the lettering to an original. Here are pics of the original instrument panel wood grain (lettering) and the CARS (part no. DK702AT) decal placed close to compare the lettering. Adam, where did you get the decals in your post above? (added for clarification - CARS sells multiple different woodgrain decals with different part numbers. I called CARS and asked for verification of which set 1. had the "transluscent" HVAC lettering, and, 2. was correct for my application for "woodgrain with A/C". I was told I needed the "new" style part no. DK702AT.)
Really interested if those are backlit...the letters look more correct but the woodgrain seems to be 2 colors only? the originals have an ocher or lighter brown shade to them wich all the repros do not have. I could live with a slight off color when replacing everything but the structure of the sticker should be more correct and the Air conditioning parts should be correctly backlit. My car is nowhere perfect or anything but if I am going to repair or refresh something I want it to at least WORK like it came from the factory. how many classic cars do you see or get to drive and when it gets darker on a nice summer day half of the dash lights do not work or some bulb sockets are molten... I will probably go the furniture veneer way on the console as well...
It's really too bad someone didn't have an extra set (each) of Greg's repros for CARS/TPP to mass produce. These vendors just can't seem to get it right.
I do. I'll have to go to storage to pull them. I also have an NOS console chrome top plate with factory woodgrain applique in place.
Is there noone on the board that knows a professional print shop guy or something? I think there is enough demand for a quality repro.
Ok I got the woodgrain from cars. The actual woodgrain pattern is a bit basic, but the letters are crisp and they ARE BACKLIT
now if they could combine the two sets... I have to agree with Jason...this print looks absolutely unusable... so it's either no shining lettering and acceptable print or horrific print but backlit lettering....omg
There's a seller on Ebay that sells a decent kit. His handle is a bunch of numbers. I think its like "80145" or something like that. Its was pretty damn good.
