Putting the SP3 to good use! Serious gears, converter, and trans brake. E-85 so he probably has some good compression to go with that solid roller. Did it without aluminum heads no less. It would be interesting to see what he shifts at. Anybody know who he is and is he on this site? Any idea on the track?
I've seen that vid before, hes on facebook, I've chatted with him, he WAS running a similar combo to mine, he went from IIRC 3.42 gears to 4.56 or some big jump like that. Hes got a new 350 build with aluminum heads, he's my inspiration He's on the Buick 215, 300, 340, 350 All performance group website on Facebook. I know who he is but he seems to be a down low kinda guy, not sure if hed like me saying who he is.
That was mine when it was a green car LOL. You mean I could have pulled the front end that much whenI ran 11.81 on the bottle. my suspension is too tight for that. sounded real good wonder who it is.
Looks like Jay Micheals car. He ran 12s with iron heads and a 3.42 gear. I think he’s got a 4.30 gear now and adding the aluminum heads like mark said. Not sure if he’s running a roller cam or not.
In the video replies he says it has a solid roller. Says he shifts at 6500 rpm. Nice on the Gear Vendors OD.
He just replied that he has the aluminum heads on and will be taking it to the track soon. This is going to be interesting. He has plenty of runs under the belt so we'll see how much those heads are really worth.
Would love to know more details of engine. Just received my aluminum heads pistons roller hydraulic cam amongst other goodies. I’m fortunately no track close to me to make passes. Will be looking for an engine dyno on Long Island NY when motor is complete in 2 months give or take.
I'd talked to him on FB too before I disabled my account. Said he has an acct. on here but doesn't come on much. Ran 12.40's w/iron heads/3.42/auto/nat. asp.asp. which was quite impressive. Wasn't overly chatty about his build but said it was mostly a street car & took it on long distance road trips & didn't want to go to a higher gear but I guess he decided to (w/OD from I'm reading here).
Im 1 second away from a 12.40, which is a TON I know If he can do it with 3.42's/iron heads/full weight street car, I can at LEAST try to get close to that. Im sure his iron heads flow better tho
Could have a lot more compression if he is running E-85 That would help too. Go to 12.1 and go to Michael's and get some 110 gas. I do wonder how he is getting to 12.40 with a 3.42 gear He must be pushing 450 hp. since I figure mine is probably only pushing 375 hp and my 75+ shot on nitrous gets me to 12.39 Has to be around 450 hp. Motor Hp.
I was close on my last build (13.0's) in the late 90's with ported big valve heads, KB C118 cam, 3.73, 4-sp. Headers, intake, etc. I think 4.10's and some more drag race friendly suspension (car handled incredibly well) & some tuning (didn't know squat) & it would've gone mid 12's. I'm dying to build another 350. Have 2 basket case 350 GS's that will need engines. Maybe if time/$ allows I'll build 350 &but it in a nice Skylark in the meantime. From my experience (back when we had almost no information) and this corresponded perfectly to KB's 350 build in the 80's, the big gains were the 4-sp. (was a factory 4-sp car & was always quick), cam, heads & gears. Probably (?) needed the headers too to get the full effect. The fact that this guy went 12.40's w/3.42's & an automatic is quite impressive. Must've been the cam/heads. He said he had a ton of $ into the heads.
He is a smart guy, I’m following his progress on Facebook. He is currently doing a belt driven oil pump And custom oil pan like my setup has. I think his next step is head porting on the alum heads, although he may try them stock too I’m not sure.
Yes it is! I know I don't have a ton of money into my heads tho, what I know for sure are bigger valves, and intake ports are gasket matched.
IIRC, he said he had so much $ into the heads that he wasn't going to go alum. but apparently changed his mind. Looks like we're about to see a real world test as he has them on. Sounded like he bumped the compression too but same cam, etc. so should be a pretty good comparison.
My interpretation was that's with the old engine & new gears (3.42 to 4.30) but w/o the heads/higher compression.
