I had to go to Wa. State to get it and some other parts originally off the car. Dave Kunoutson (sp.?) had them from when Dave Johnson lived there.
Knudsen (I think). Interesting although not surprising that it orig. had an "OZ." That woukd be a SCO. Could you post the Sloan &/or window sticker? I doubt very many came with that rear. I know of one '70 Stage 1 4-sp that did. I can't recall if 4.30 was also a factory SCO option but I don't think so. IIRC both 4.30 & 4.78 were parts counter/Stage 2 options.
I’ll try to find my Sloan docs. No window sticker. I probably should not rob this tread…. I’ll stop, sorry
Yes, apologies to Stacey (OP). Hopefully you don't mind. Was hoping to meet you @ MCACN. Will you be at the Nationals in May?
I am fixing things that I lost points for at MCACN. I was out of town for almost 3 weeks before the show, flew home, loaded the car in the trailer and drove to Chicago the next morning. I might have caught some of this stuff if I wasn't in such a rush. Rich wasn't sure if the trim around the vinyl top was supposed to be black in the center. Me either. So here's what it looked like at the show: Turns out black is correct. I got some 1/8 inch 3M pinstripe tape and now it looks like this: The tape wouldn't make the corner at the rear without wrinkling so I had to miter it. You can't really tell but I don't like it and will eventually try and paint the center black instead. Correct Dill 627 valve caps. Who knew! We forgot the emissions sticker. Got one off of Ebay for a '70 stage 1 with auto trans: This wire strap was missing. It attaches to a hole in the firewall where the "D" is painted. The strap came from Todd at stage1restoration.com. I also added license plate bumpers and the flasher switch knob. I had to chase the threads on the knob and in the column to get it to go. More to come as I get parts and have time to install them.
Dave Knutsen. Super knowledgeable Buick guy who rebuilt/recurved the distributor in my car a couple years ago. It's worked flawlessly.
More parts swapping/additions. New distributor cap with Delco markings: 2-hole spark plug wire retainers (trust me they're in there somewhere) from Chad (Black70Buick): Does anyone know where is is supposed to go? It's for the overflow hose from the radiator overflow reservoir. It looks like it clips onto the radiator tank on the passenger side but I am not sure how high it should go vertically or if that even matters: Here's a photo looking down at the passenger side radiator tank. Should that clip go above or below the clip that says SJ?
Also when assembling the carb to the manifold we used a reproduction dashpot. The repops have a longer than necessary rod so I they can be shortened to whatever length is required. Shortening them removes the plating though and I would have just been guessing at the length. So instead I used the dashpot (after soaking in rust remover) from that 1967 GS400 I parted out which appeared to be the correct length. This is an original piece and the repop side by side. Let me know if anyone needs the dimension from the original part in case you need to shorten one of the repops.
Have you tried opening/closing those 2 wire looms yet and do you feel like they withstand engine bay heat? Here's where the clip goes:
Thanks for the location. I didn't want to open them up too much. I think the material can stand the heat but it doesn't feel very flexible. We will see.
