On the stud...use a washer and lock nut...factory didn't but should have Also on the zbar use a press in bronze bushing instead of the rubber bushing
Today I got the dash wired and re-installed along with the correct 70” new speedometer cable for the 4-speed. Also removed the column shift lever, looks so much better.
Got the lower control arms boxed today, first time I’ve welded in 20 years. Looks as good as the factory did.
Looks like you’ll have this bad boy done with plenty of time for testing before the nats. Kudos doing all this work yourself. Going to be kick azz.
Thanks but it has been a mighty struggle , maybe I’ll get it done, sure trying. Gives me something to do and buy new tools .
Strange to me, I went to replace the u-joints with some Spicer units and I couldn’t figure out how to remove the factory stuff, had to watch UTube video. Factory used some nylon type plastic crap to hold them in place it looks almost like a drift pin until you see it’s orange and plastic, you heat it up until the stuff melts and comes out the holes like a worm, then use a punch and beat the caps off. But then turns out it was a waste of time, the 350 yoke is way to small for the M22w output shaft, lucky I have a 400 yoke and shaft In AZ.
It’s all the little things when swapping in a 455, new throttle cable installed, 1 1/2 “ longer than 350.
Today I’m addressing the fuel tank, new sending unit and hose connections and clean out any 50 year old crap inside. Inside was nice and clean, top is still shiny and even the trunk floor is still nice with re oxide paint still intact. No build sheet found dang it, but just a Skylark so no biggie . Picture of original sending unit probably.
I installed the Pypes 3” exhaust hangers, I was pleasantly surprised the factory provided holes on both sides on this little single exhaust Skylark. Good quality pieces too.
Part of my Build also included a new trailer, it only took 3weeks from ordered to delivery. Not the most expensive but it’s new and nice enough for the next 20 years. 24’, 5200 axels, rubber floor, lights, electric jack and lights , brakes, 16” wheels.
