It doesn’t look like you got too deep into anything.

Are the sealing surfaces here cleaned good enough? Using steel head gaskets

20201204_183202.jpg why is the crank drilled out here? Material is super thin

    Balance hole, chamfer it.

Starting to think my oil pump is worn out. The Guy at TA performance said that because I have 40 to 50 psi i shouldn't tear it apart. He recommended leaving it alone. But it almost sounds like something is loose in there when I spin the shaft. The timing cover also appears to have tons of cracks in the casting. I don't want to buy a new cover they are expensive. How do I know if its worn or not?

Cast flashing. Probably not cracks. Normal look. I would get the higher pressure spring for relief. Just relax, put it together. Check oil pressure then.

Inspect the front cam bearing. If it’s grooved at all , change it. Should give you good pressure.

I have a new one from TA getting installed.

You can do this , get a 5/8 pickup tube
This is the suction passage from oil pan. you would drill the part the pickup tube bolts too. Also.
Just be careful not to drill too far. Drill 1/2 bit

I do have the bigger pick up tube. I've considered drilling the block out but dont want to mess anything up. I had great oil pressure before I pulled engine. Cam bearing and pickup tube were my original plans for oiling improvements

I appreciate all the information. But I was advised from ta performance not to mess with my pump being that I have such good oil pressure. But I just noticed last night when I was cleaning the timing cover to get it ready for reinstallation that it kind of rattled a little bit like the Gears are fitting in there loose. I was spinning the shaft back and forth with my fingers when I heard the noise. I would be interested in doing the backer plate...but I had great oil pressure. At least 20 to 25 psi at hot idle. Do I really want to mess with it?

Leave it alone then. I just furnished you the information. If you have a dial indicator, set it up to measure how much you can pull up and down on the shaft. That is your end clearance. If the pump cavity isn't excessively worn, you can tighten the clearance using thinner gaskets in the TA kit.

As of now I have not taken the pump apart. I'll see if the shaft has much movement. I tried to pay attention to that last night. Nothing struck me as being drastic.

I’m gonna go with the it’s not broke don’t fix it approach . Pressure was good. Just remember put on a fresh filter then fill oil pump with oil, fill filter as best you can. Then keep it tipped so oil don’t drain out. . You should be fine. Or leave filter on and assemble engine, prime oil pump with drill then change filter.

My heads are still at the shop, hoping to get them back next week. I was thinking in the meantime maybe it would be wise to install a new transmission seal...but it did not leak anything at all so I'm kind of wondering if I should just leave it alone... ? And should I replace the tranny fluid inside the torque converter?

20201219_125500.jpg 20201219_125449.jpg heads are done. Went a little over budget but they are gonna be some good performers. When I asked The Machinist if he thought I would pick up at least 25 horsepower with these heads he said "oh yeah easy" hope to get it painted tonight. I need torque specs for oil pan, timing cover, water pump, and intake. Any links to torque specs?
