What kind of horsepower and torque does a stock 4.6 in a 02 Mustang GT Convertible with an automatic make? What kind of quarter mile times are typical @ what MPH? What is the first thing to do to up the power? Thanks in advance.-Mike D.
I believe the HP is 245 in the stock engine. I have one. No world beater. Of course the Cobra version is a little over 300 HP I believe. Don't know the torque rating but it doesn't have much practical torque below 3500 rpm. Not like our good old low end torque Buicks. I see guys putting different cams in to increase HP. No expert. I also had a 98 GT and it was rated at 225 HP so the 02 is more but not much really.
the hp rating is 260, Im not sure about the other stuff, I am more into the cheap 5.0 stuff,if I see anything I will lwt you know
I know that in 99 ford improved the heads, helping make alot more power. Im not so sure on the 02, but for the fox body frame stiffeners are from what I hear the 1st thing you should do. I would look into those, especially since yours is a convertible. The 4.6 is a great engine, but spendy. As always, stick in some different gears and that will get ya there a bit quicker. Most people seem to supercharge the 4.6, seems like the only good way to make some big power. Check out http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/ im sure there are some good articles on making more power with your 4.6. Good luck.
The '99-'04 Mustang GT's are good cars. I had a 2000 GT that I bought new and a friend had a 2001 GT at the same time. Both were 5-speeds and 260hp as mentioned above. I raced it at the track alot over the few years I had it. I ran 13.9's completely stock. Then I added a K&N filter, 2-chamber flowmasters, MAC ProChamber off road h-pipe and a B&M Ripper shifter. Still on the stock street tires mine ran a best of 13.50 at 103. My friends car with the same upgrades as mine but with the addition of Nitto Drag Radials ran a best of 13.36 at 104. Both of us were shifting right at 5000 RPM's, they slowed down winding them up any higher. At the time, the stock automatic cars I saw racing were about a half a second slower in the quarter. Ken
Oops ou: 260 HP is correct, don't know where I got the 245 from. Guess since it's not a Buick I wasn't as careful with my answer. :Brow: Still like it though, where else can you get a V8 - 5speed with a drop top. Fun to drive and fairly economical and comfortable if you are under 6 foot tall. :3gears:
