10:1 494?

    Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever built a 10:1 494? Reading all these articles about big inch pump gas motors makes me wonder.

    I've wondered the same thing. I have a 494 kit, but unsure of what compression I'll want to run. I know the pistons are 12.0:1 with zero deck. But if I leave the pistons down in the hole with just a mild deck clean up with a thicker gasket and aluminum heads you SHOULD be able to get down to 11.0:1 and get away with pump gas.

    I'm running 11.25:1. If I had it to do all over I'd build a blower engine instead. More power, stronger, and close to the same money.
