10:1 Steering box- too quick?

I'm seriously thinking of ditching the original pwr steering box on my '69 Skylark. Feather light, no feel and 4 turns lock to lock are getting old.
My question: Is a 10:1 box, with 2.5 turns lock to look too quick? My daily drive is about that, just wondering how you blokes feel about that fast a ratio. S
Still got the bus sized original steering wheel on the car, I'd like to go down to a 14 inch one at a later stage.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

    Chris,

My '64 Rivs box I modified & it's a tick over 2 1/2 turns lock-lock instead of 4 turns lane-lane. I love it as well as others I have let drive it. Almost feels like rack & pinion. I'm sure you will be satisfied.

I'm with Tom - swapped out my old box with a QR for late 60's chevelle (the Quick ration PN wasn't showing for my Skylark, go figure) and LOVE it.

That box is a bit expensive. It would have to be a special part to be 10:1. Most of the GM ones were 12.7:1. If you look at this box for the 1969 Chevelle SS, it works great. Cheap and works great! You can look at the Cardone 27-6509 from your favorite retailer.

Too quick for street car. Nice race track ratio. I think Hector can build you a custom box for a reasonable price.

If price is no object get a turn one 670 series box. That is the same box NASCAR teams use. http://www.turnone-steering.com/

If I may ask -- can you give the details of your mods? Specifically, what new parts did you put in and what were the original applications for those parts?

I have the same box as mentioned here and am happy with it, as I said earlier in the thread. if you want to buy from a retailer, try advance, buy online and use code TRT30. 30% off... can't beat a box for around 90 bucks with lifetime warranty.
