How do I know if the clutches are worn? I picked up a 10 bolt with a series 2 carrier from a 79 TA for a good price. I want to pull the guts from the 2 carrier & install into a series 3 carrier with taller gears. The spider gears & clutches all look exceptionally clean, the fluid also looks new. Maybe this was rebuilt before? Anyway the clutches look really clean. Is there any measurements I can make to check the wear... thickness maybe. This will be going behind a moderate small block. Thanks, Ken
Anyone have a new set of clutches they can measure? Or instructions on setting up the carrier & clutches as far as tolerances and shimming? There are some shims installed currently. Thanks, Ken
Usually when just one tire spins or spins more then the other one....you have worn clutches. Since it is out of the car, contact Randy's Ring & Pinion in California for a clutch kit and/or help.
