    buickman70 I pirated this pic!!!

This stuff is getting retarded. $800 grilles, $700 overflow bottles, now $100+ radiator caps. It would almost be worth buying $13000 GS's and parting them out.

If you can stomach this - that radiator cap was a "steal" compared too what they were selling for last summer. I saw a couple exceed 250.00 in sale price. Not for me! Put it on the car and it isn't NOS anymore....CARS offers a real nice repo for 35.00 or less and it looks like a dead ringer....

Another thing is that the NOS ones aren't entirely correct as what the factory put on.
The NOS ones for sale are actually the over the counter replacement from that era.
The original is smooth around the edge, and the NOS / replacement has a serated edge.
That is why CARS now has 2 different ones available.

Thanks for the visual aids Brett.
It makes more sense when you can see them.

Another note: the serated edge was added so you could position the tag where needed, then bend down a couple tabs to keep it from spinning on the cap.

Steve, Duane would have to confirm this, but I don't believe you would be counted off for that one in any judging.

    Steve,
Jeff is correct, in the concours class we deduct no points for either type RC-29 cap, with or without the serrations. For years the damn things were so hard to find the only thing available was the serrated kind, we accepted them then and I feel there is no reason to now "fault" the owners that paid big bucks for the original replacements.

Now if we ever do a "Platinum" class everybody better watch out.
That's when I am going to get tough. I don't know if any cars would survive a 4-hour look-see, including date codes, and the fact that everything must match the decoded buildsheet etc.

Thanks for the info Duane and Jeff. I don't think I will ever subject myself to the scrutiny of a GS class judging. My cars are nice and "correct" from the standpoint of looking as they are supposed to. Did I give a rats rear-end when restoring them if the metal was stamped with the correct date if it needed replacing NOPE. I went with the best non NOS sheetmetal I could find - typically always rust free.

Frankly the last restoration was stressful and expensive enough bringing back a rusted hulk to a first class eyepopper. The last thing I want is someone standing there saying "it's nice but....."

I understand and appreciate to others this is extremely important but I'll never take the "hobby" to that extreme - or so I think.

    Steve,
I think you are one of the smart ones. Drive the damn things and enjoy them. That's what they were built to do.

Neither of those look like mine, which has the lettering stamped with no lithograph. Mine say RC-29 as well. Dan
