I want to get my throttle plates closed enough to engage the idle circuits, but I don't want to just drill holes in the throttle plates (because this 107 cam I installed is temporary). Any ideas on what I can do to get my idle speed up, make use of the idle mixture screws, and have better vacuum (vac. is like 3-5 inches; I probably need the lowest powervalve if this is the best I can do). With a big cam, you need more initial timing. This means removing your distributor and having it modified for less mechanical advance. You'll see a huge difference if you run at least 20* initial. This will improve your vacuum at idle, and allow the engine to run with smaller throttle opening.
Thanks Larry. I have a Mallory distributor that came with the car and hopefully it's easy enough to mod without having to send it out. Also, last night I remembered that my Might Demon is the later version with the "Idle-ease" screw under the aircleaner stud (to give a controlled air leak so the throttle plates can leave just the right amount idle circuit slot exposed). I will have to give that a shot too. I'm glad I didn't just delete this post when I remembered.
