This is a complete open rear, and I have a Posi carrier that needs some replacement pieces. It's got some broken spider gears,and it needs 1 spring plate replaced. The Posi unit had new performance clutches and an 800lbs spring kit a couple years ago, and was the victim of a radial slick spin/grab. A couple new pieces, it will be as good as new. $650 complete drum to drum Located in Three Rivers,Mi 49093 local pickup only please. can provide pics if not having them is a deal breaker.
Quick back story on this rear and Posi...... It's a 3.31 open take out, complete drum to drum. Came out of a 69 SS396 that was parted out years ago. Posi carrier is a GM carrier that I bought from a friend. He replaced it with a MOROSO Brute Strength. He had just purchased the Eaton HD service kit with the 800lbs springs and severe duty clutches, went to the track with his brand new drag radial slicks, launched the car, it spun,wheelhopped,grabbed and broke the spider gears,chipped at least 1 of the side gears, and cracked one of the sheetmetal spring plates that apply pressure to the side gears. A new Posi unit from Eaton is $425-480,depending where you look. The spider gear/side gear/cross pin kit is $125 new,and a spring plate lists for $20. You might be able to check with MONZAS on v8 board to see if he has some nice used GM pieces to put it back together. Thanks, Tom
ok so I am a little confused. The rear it self is an open 12 bolt 3.31? But you also have a stock GM posi carrier that has had an eaton spring kit installed that comes with it? The posi carrier has never been in this rear? if it was where did the open carrier come from? The 3.31 gears are installed with open diff as it is now and can be used as is installed complete drum to drum until the posi carrier is repaired and installed? What series carrier is the posi, will it work with the 3.31's?, not looking to go any deeper with the gears, would not mind getting a 3.08 or 3.23 if they will fit the carrier. Sorry for all the questions, just trying to understand.
LOL. Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I'm selling a complete OPEN 3.31 rear that has never been apart. Included in the sale is a 3 series POSI carrier that needs some repair parts. Once the Posi carrier is repaired it can go into this rear to make a 3.31 POSI.
