Finding someone locally to set up a 12 bolt Chevy rear is proving to be more difficult than I thought. I'm thinking about buying Proform's pinion setting tool and doing it myself. Will this give me what I need to get the job done? I realize the bearing needs to be pressed on. I have all new parts. Gears, installation kit and axles. Thanks
12 bolt chevy rear Dave, I'm in the same situation... I bought my pinion depth gauge from Summit. You'll also need a dial indicator to measure backlash & an in/lbs torque wrench. I think thats it. I hope to do mine soon. Good luck. Tom :TU:
Thanks for the reply. I have the dial indicator and torque wrench. Looking at the picture of the pinion setting tool I can't quite figure out how it works. I guess reading some instructions could fix that though. I'll probably go ahead and order it.
pinion gauge Yeah, I thought the same thing.... looking at the picture... But, once I got the gauge & instructions it made sense.
