Ok guys, I was in the garage yesterday. Decided to remove the posi carrier and look it and the gears over to see what it would need. I have not worked with this style posi before, but figured it would be straight forward removal. I removed the cross pin bolt and pin. Pushed the left axle in and removed the c clip. Tried pushing in the right side axle so I could remove the c clip and it would not push in enough to do it. I got to looking at the spring plate and the hole in the plate where the axle goes through is too small. The hole in the spring plate is smaller than the c clip on the axle. The hole on the left side is larger than the hole on the right. I could not compress the spring plate enough to clear the tip of the axle and pull it all out together. I removed 2 of the springs on the plate and then could push the axle out far enough to get the c clip off. How the heck am I going to get this thing back together??? :Do No: I can't get the c clip on with the sping plate installed and I can't install the spring plate after the axle and c clip is installed. Should the holes on the spring plate both be the same size?? Should I be able to remove both c clips and axles without disassembling the spring plate??? Could I "open" up the hole on the other side some more so I can get the c clip back on the axle?? Any ideas??? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is for a 3 series stock Eaton 30140 posi carrier?

The two steel preload spring retaining plates should be the same. Can you post a pic of these 2 spring retainer plates?

    Thanks Roger,
I have not checked the P/N pf the carrier, but it is a 3.27 (give or take) gear ratio. I do know someone has been into this thing so it is a good likelyhood it has a different spring plate. I will remove the plate and borrow a camera and get a few pics. I can't get a break  Looks like the ring gear has been replaced at some point because there are no stampings or date code on it. The pinion has a '69 date code. I can not believe someone would have just changed the ring gear and not the pinion as well. I don't know if this thing is junk or not. :Dou: :Dou:

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

12 bolt Chevy should be a 3.31 ratio.

If you are in doubt, I would replace the gears. You are supposed to install ring and pinion as a set.

As for not being able to remove the c-clip, I have this happen several times. Drum get hung up on the brake show not allowing the axle to slide inward. Remove the drum and you should be able to push the axle in to remove the c-clip.
