I've been curious for a while..

is it possible to cut off the center section from the 12bolt tubes and then weld it to the stock 10bolt housing and use 10bolt 30 spline axles?
My 10bolt has already been built..but if this is possible this would be an easy way to get the better wavetrac

pretty sure guys does this kind of things with ford 9inc center welded to ford 8 inch tubes/axles

again just curious as i can pick up a 12bolt 4link housing for 250

With enough money, almost anything is possible. Just because it is possible doesn't mean it should be done. I am guessing it will definitely take some custom axles since a 12 bolt is a C-clip and Buick 10 bolt is bolt-in axles. They better be an excellent welder as well.

A 12 bolt isn't that much stronger than a 10 bolt on the street. Unless you are talking big horsepower/torque and a lot of grip with slicks. If that's the case, you should just go Ford 9" and get it over with.

no i wont need custom ends or axle shafts..if you swap the 12bolt centersection and weld it to the stock 71-72 10bolt housieing and use 30 spline axles(which i already have) then axle type and length will be correct
    ends would be correct too

onlything there should be to do would be cut the 12bolt center off the tubes, cutt 10bolt center off from tubes...welld 12bolt to ten bolt tubes to make a hybrid housing
so you have 12bolt case with ears that holds the posi/gears...stock 10bolt tubes/ends and my moser 30 spline axle shafts at stock 10bolt width

Why not just use the 12 bolt housing and C clip emliminators Axle modifications require a jig to insure straightness and will be costly.
    A 12 bolt housing for 250 is a good deal for a A body.

    i will.
my 10bolt is still fresh...got most my parts from him..

and this is the reason why i'm asking

12 bolt housing it is from a chevelle. top bushing holes still there no other brackets it measures 48 inches flange to flange.someone cut the tubes for a tubbed car. you could use your end tubes in this center section.has bearing caps 200.00
tubes in the 12bolt has been shortends.
so, why not just cut the tubes completely off and weld the center to a 10bolt housing
12bolt with bolt-in axles that's the same width of a stock 71-72 BO tenbolt

If you have a 10 bolt 8.5 with MOSER 30 spline axle you are set to race. WILL hold up to just about anything that is even remotely street-able. :)

    Jim

The 12 bolts we put FORD axle bearings on Moser custom axle and Moser GM bolt pattern ends with Ford / Olds large bearing pocket ends. THIS has been done for year and years now.

    Good luck on the weird choices you have...lol. :D :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:

Oh and why does every one think a FORD 9" is the way to go??? That is a 10 bolt rear...lol. Just because everyone uses it does not mean it is the best.

REMEMBER aftermarket FORD it TOTALLY different that Stock stuff that came under a stock truck or car.

12 bolt chevy has never been modified from it stock form because it has NEVER needed it.

Ford 9" on the other hand has been totally re-engineered because of all the weak areas it has.

LARGE Ring gear diameter on towing vehicles and heavy load up hills etc OR circle track constant high rpm racing ...

ANY way were getting into the whole politics of 12 bolt 9" again...Just burns when GM guys go FORD.. TAke care, Jim :blast: :idea2:

We can do the 12 bolt for you IF you really want one. I can mate and repair the center section etc.
You are better off going with a BIGGER bearing if your going to do this 12 bolt DO NOT cut corners...Moser ends with the Big bearing end GEt Moser 33 spline axles ....

Do you really think you need all this?

We are racing the 8.5 10 bolt in the Monza and running 10.90...??? Yes your car is heavier BUT still track smack is track smack... Slicks trans brake and sticky tracks are a hurt on all drive line components. I think you will be fine wityh the rear you have. :)

What's the best recomendation for guys with the big car 12 bolt (9-3/8)? Doesn't seem to be much in the market for them short of doing one of these hybrid setups.

If all the mounting points are on the axle tubes and NOT the cast center section we can install a 8.5 or 9.5 center and put your brackets on from your original rear. Rivs we can do.
IF I could find a Limo junk yard I would buy the 14 bolt rears that were in these vehicles. :) JIm
