Now that I will soon be replacing the original 14's, what tires to load on the 15's? From a search of this section, I will likely go with 235/60R15. What make will give the best combination of value and overall performance? The car is stock and is primarily a weekend, fair-weather cruiser, though a trip to the local track is not out of the question at some point. Just doing a little price comparison, it looks like I can get a set of T/A radials for under $300 locally. anybody have any strong feelings on tire brands for this application? thanks, dewey
P245/60R-15's(26.6") are the best choice because they come the closest to the height of the G60-15(26.44"). They fit fine, and the Radial TA's are hard to beat for price/availability.
Dewey, who did you go through for the wheels? I am saving up to get a new set of 15x7 buick sport rims. I have been leaning toward wheel vintique. Any suggestions from anyone else? Frank:3gears:
Frank, I went with used wheels. I've been tracking ebay for a while, looking for the right deal, but, as you know, shipping gets to be a pretty big % of the total if you have to move them very far. I finally found a set that was within the same shipping zone, so the cost was about 1/2 what it would be to Houston from either the east or west coast. Wheel vintiques does good work, but was a lot more than I wanted to spend. There are still plenty of good used wheels out there, you just have to dig. Seems the main reason to get Vintiques would be to get a larger wheel, say a 15*8, and retain the "stock" look, unless you just want new. I'm still pondering between the 245/60 and 235/60, if anyone has any additional input on the matter. will probably get the shop to test fit each size before I settle on one. hope we can get it done this weekend. dewey
If you are going to buy wheel vintiques wheels, buy them through Jegs. You won't have to pay shipping. Their price is as good as anywhere else too. Bob
Jegs was about 20 bucks a wheel cheaper than vintique. I'll check with specialty wheels. thanks for the input. I'm leaning toward new 15x8 all around. With a 4.5 backspace, I would think I would have no clearance problems on a 66 sky/gs.
Thanks, Larry. I went with the 245/60 T/A's. Super! A major improvement over the skinny tires on my 14" wheels...
We just put on my brothers 69 GS convertible my 15x7 WG rims off my GSX with 245/60-15's all the way around. They fit great with no rubbing. I had been using them on my 70 GSX. But I had new Buick Ralleys made for the X. And now I have 15x7's on the front with 245/60-15's, and on the rear with 15x8's with 295/50-15's. The rear wheels have 4-7/8 back spacing and the rear tires just fit with no rubbing whatsoever.Specialty Wheel in Troutdale Oregon makes the Buick rims just about any way you want them. I payed 135.00 ea for the rear 15x8's. Send me an E-mail and I will send you pictures of both our cars. @ gsx.man@verizon.net
235/60/15 or 245/60/15"s ???? Hello all, I know that the 245's look great on the 70-72 GS's but I don't know what they look like on the 68/69 cars as the wheelwell's are different ? What does everybody think? Can somebody post a pic of their 68/69 with 15x7's and 245/60/15 's all the way around please!:TU:
Oh yeah !! These folks have specialty wheels Buick sport wheels and will sell the tires( BF Goodrich TA's) mounted and balanced and FREE shipping if you order through the web. I don't think you can beat the package deal anywhere! :bglasses: http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/
Great looking car Dewey:TU: David, you can go up to a 275 (an 295 if you want a real tight fit) on the 68/69 cars. If you go 275 use a 15x8 with 5" of BS. If a 295 go with 15x8 and 5.25" of BS. 245's are no problem even with the stock rallyes which are 15x7 with 4.375" BS.
