I found a set of rims close to my house.

They are 15 x 8. I am not sure of the back space. I will try and find out. I see a few people with them on the back. What about the front?

Will they work on my 66 or 72 Skylark?

    Thank you,
    Bob

i can speak for 70-72. 15x8 rallye rims will fit both front and rear again depending on backspacing. they should fit 66, and 67-68 with drum brakes.
they will not fit on 67-68 a-bodies with disk brakes as the disk brakes were unique to those years.

    Thanks Gerry !!!!

The rims I am looking at are Cragar SS rims.

Does anyone know what backspacing will work to make 15 x 8 rims work?

    Please let me know.

    Thank you,
    Rob

I was just told that the backspacing is 5 1/2 inches.

Will this work or is 4 1/2 backspacing the max.?

I don't think that will work. You can measure and see for sure if you know the back spacing of your current wheels. See if you have the clearance. Just remember, while wheels may work in the straight away position, they may rub when you turn.

I have the stock steel rims on the car now. According to the chart I found in the "Hides" section. They should be 4 1/2 backspacing. When I look under the car. I don't see much more room.

I am going to pass on the rims.

Thanks a bunch for your reply Larry :bglasses:

    What size tires Bob?
I have 255/60-15's with 15x7 Buick mags on a couple of my '66's. It's a snug fit. May rub if your rear springs sag, or if the rear isn't centered on the body.

I never cared for the term 'backspacing'.
I prefer the term 'offset'..... a much more useful spec, especially if you are going to a different width rim.
.....measure 'backspace' with a straight edge across the back of the rim to the wheel mounting (drum) surface. Repeat for the front side. The difference is the 'offset'.

For a '66, the std 15x7 Buick rally wheel offset will work, but a little more backspace ( maybe + 1/2") would be even better.

Walt, I decided not to get the rims. I will keep this information if I come across another set of wheels.
    Thanks,
    Bob
