I currently have 14x6 Rallye wheels on my 1967 Skylark which also has fender skirts. Does anyone know if 15x7's will fit on the back without rubbing on the skirts? Does it depend on the tire size? If they will fit, does anybody have any suggestions for tire size if I get 15x7's? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I just installed Wheel Vintiques 15X7 wheels with Goodrich 225 60 15 tires.

Was very surprised at how close the tire is to the outer edge. If the raised white letters were sprung to the stainless wheel molding, I'd estimate that the clearance would be 1/8" or less.

Mike, I have been considering 15" rallye wheels as well but I am concerned about the fender skirts and clearance on my 67 Skylark. Not only that but I have a rear end from a 66 Chevelle that may change things. This weekend I used my friends 15" x 7 Crager wheel with B.F. 65 tires as a sample. The tire did rub on the rod that holds the skirt on. I think a 15" x 6 with a 4" back spacing may work. The height is not a problem, but the width of the rim and the width of the tires may be an issue so be careful. I am not sure if Harry is running fender skirts on his 66 or not. So for now I am considering a new pair of 14" x 6 rallyes. The 15's are on back order at Summit and some the other distributors, must be a hot item. Best of luck! Mark

My car doesn't have fender skirts. Only Skylarks I've noticed them on are the 1967 models.

But, if my clearance is so close without them, you can assume that you would have problems with the same tire/wheel combo.

Thanks, Mark. I think my best option may be to keep the 14's I have and just refinish them. I have someone who can powdercoat them for me and rechrome them. Thanks for you're help everyone.

i learned very quickly in the 60's to HATE fender skirts. i used to have to wash my dad's car(s) if i wanted to drive the vehicle. fender skirts were a pain to remove & to re-install. eventually i removed & never re-installed and my dad actually liked the car's appearance without them.

I don't think it's too bad removing them and reinstalling them... the only thing that's keeping me from removing them for good is the fact that I can't find the trim for the wheel well to replace the skirt.

The skirts do go on and off pretty easily. I am now considering a 15 X 6 with 3 1/2 back-spacing, just saw them on the wheel vintiques site. The width of the rim and tire is the issue with skirts. I think if hI stay with a 6" wide rim and 70 tiires they should fit. I don't think I can run a 65 or 60 tire or a 7" rim. Mark

    Check back spacing

Was at a cruise in last night talking to a 67 Skylark owner that didn't have his skirts on (fender that is). Found out that he had 14 x 7 s on the back.
    Don't know what back spaceing.
Says he can get his skirts on by putting 14 x 6 s on.
Also that 3 1/2 back spacing may not work even with 14 x 6 s.
On my 67 Special (no skirts) I have 4 inch back spacing in the rear two
wheels and 3 3/4 back spacing in the front. Also the spare is 3 1/2 inch back
spacing. I think Buick made all these different arrangements to accomodate
with or without skirts in the rear which gets us in trouble. So would double
check that back spacing. 3 1/2 may be to little. I'm pretty sure 4 will work.
    Good luck.

Thanks for that information. I have 14 x 6 with 4" back space on the car right now. I haven't checked all the wheels yet, I figured they should be the same. Looks like have have some more homework to do. Thanks again, Mark
