I will be ordering a new set of buick rims for the '66 skylark/gs. I cant decide on 15x7 or 15x8. I dont want to run into any clearance issues. I was planning on running 60 series radials all around. Anyone running these on a 66 skylark platform? thanks, Frank

    Frank, I'm using 15x7's....
With the stock rear I can fit 255/60-15's, but it's tight on one side at the fender lip, so I rolled up the edge a bit. Rear is slightly raised over stock...I'll post a pic.

My blue GS has a 12 bolt rear, it's one inch narrower....I can fit 275/60-15's.

Can you get backspacing info for the 15x7 vs 15x8's? that would help...

Yes walt, Ibelieve the backspacing is 4" on 7's, and 4.5" on the 8's. Frank

:TU: I can use either a stock Buick 15x7(a bit more that 4.5" back space) or a Wheel Vintique 15x8 (5" back space) with either Cooper P275-60's or similar MT ET Streets. I have a bit more than 1/2" clearance all around. (I did have to lightly massage the front lower inner wheel well to add some more clearance for the MT's. No rubbing on either tire/wheel comb in two years and 15,000 miles.)

To accurately measure before I ordered the wheels and tires, I took a scrap 1"x 1/8" x28" piece of steel plate, drilled holes to match the wheel studs, bolted it on and rotated it around and took carefull measurements to the tire buldge point to point on the inner and outer wheel wells on both sides. Then I compared this info to the tire charts for the Coopers. BTW, this will help determine if your body is offset left or right with the differential. Hope this helps. :3gears:
