On a 15x8 Buick rally wheel for the rear of a 70-72 Skylark, is a 4.25 inch back space enough for a 275x60x15 or do you definitely need a 4.5 inch back space?
Sorry I forget if they are 15x8 or 15x7 Chrome Buick Factory Rallye rims, "They were a junk yard find off a 70's era Le Sabre", but I'm running 275/60/15's on the back of my Skylark with no clearance issues or back spacer installed with those rims and the Lark likes it just fine.
>>Well, I know that 15x8 with 4.5 back space and 275x60x15s definitely fits as I had that set up on my '71. Just wanted to make sure 4.25 back spacing was still enough as I'm trying to decide over two sets of wheels. Do you know the back spacing of those rims on your Lark?
You shoud be fine. I had 15x8's on my car with 4.5" backspacing and had almost an inch to the frame with a 275/60R15 tire.
P275/60-15 fits fine on the 70-72 GS, on a stock 15 X 7 wheel with the 4.25" back space. Having said that, that tire wants a 15 X 8" wheel. The 15 X 8 wheel has 4.5" back space.
Thanks for the info guys. After some thinking, I finally decided on a set of 15x7 Buick rally wheels with 255x60x15 tires all around. This will give the 3.23 posi which will be going in some more kick in raising the gear (plus if I ever get a flat it will be easier to carry just one spare than two different sized tires)
