I'm selling my 1955 Buick Special. It's an awesome car to drive, but I live in Cleveland now and I don't have the time to put into it to make it look like it should. It's a southern car - was in Tennessee until about 2 years ago, and it's been undercoated. The underbody is clean as a whistle. It's powered by a 264 cubic inch Nailhead V8, which puts power to the ground via an archaic Dynaflow 2-speed transmission. For those of you who are unenlightened about the Dynaflow, it's like a Powerglide, but it's always in high gear unless you manually select low. It's got a nifty switch-pitch torque converter that tries to create more torque at low RPM.
It's a pretty nice car, but it has some issues. I drove it to Wisconsin from Cleveland this summer, but never drove it back.

    THE BAD:
-Both front windows are cracked. Replacements are cheap, because the glass is flat.
-There are no brakes right now. I'm assuming there was a leak somewhere in the system; they just sort of went out on me. Before that, they worked great.
-The engine is leaking a little oil from a head gasket. Fel-Pro makes replacements, and a head gasket is an incredibly easy thing to replace on an old V8.
-The speedometer gets angry sometimes and goes "WHUUUUUURRRR" and bounces around wildly. It didn't start doing this until I got to Wisconsin, thank the good lord, otherwise it would've driven me insane by the Indiana state line. I'm assuming it could be rebuilt.
-The left rear window has fallen and can't get up. ha, ha. Seriously, though, i think the tabs holding it to the regulator may have fallen off. It's taped up right now.
-The paint was done by someone who wasn't fantastic at painting cars.
-The interior is better than what you'd expect for a 62-year-old car, but is far from perfect. It's perfectly useable, however.

    THE GOOD:
-No rust. Like, literally no rust anywhere. Zero. Not even a little.
-With the exception of a small dent on the front passenger door, the body is completely straight.
-The car is amazingly original, right down to the chrome "Buick" hubcaps, oil-bath air cleaner, and the optional mason-jar style washer fluid reservoir.
-It runs really well. It only has 64k miles on it. Practically brand new, right?
    -The tires have good tread.
-It comes with a pair of shiny new Offenhauser valve covers!
-The carb was rebuilt this spring.
-There is a 12-gallon fuel cell in the trunk, and a new electric fuel pump. I have the original tank, which isn't rusted, but it's in Cleveland and I'm taking the bus home for Thanksgiving, so you're gonna hafta wait on it. I'm assuming the previous owner had the fuel cell and was itching to put it in something, so he dropped it in the Buick. I wasn't thrilled with it- 12 gallons doesn't get you very far with a car this big- but hey, it made him happy.
    -Overall, it's an awesome car.

    FACTORY OPTIONS:
    -Dynaflow transmission
    -Heater/defroster
-Safety group (back up lights, windshield washer, anti-glare rear view mirror)
-Accessory group (electric clock, trunk light, wheel covers, license plate frame)
-Redline speedometer (a red band extends around the speedo to show your speed. very space-age, and pretty rare)

I'm asking $4300, or best offer. As it sits, the car would need to be trailered, but feel free to bring some brake lines and fluid and mess with the brakes if you think you want to buy it and drive it home. This car really doesn't need anything major to be restored. I will be arriving in Madison midday on the 21st, leaving midday on the 25th, so the car can be seen then. My asking price is negotiable; I don't see enough of these things to know their value. I would also TRADE IT for a nice PLYMOUTH DUSTER or DODGE DART or similar muscle car. Hit me up!

Please call me or text me at 608-512-5524.

    Thank you!
