1955 century rear end

    I WOULD LIKE SOME HELP IN REPLACING MY REAR END WITH OPEN UNIT I READ A THREAD ONCE THAT SAID A77-79 SEVILLE REAR WOULD FIT I WOULD LIKE TO KEE THE 5'' BOLT PATTERN. ANY IDEAS? thanks for any help.:pp

    The '77-79 Seville rearend is basically an 8.5 "X-body" rear with factory disc brakes. In the '77-79 Seville incarnations, it uses 5 on 5 bolt pattern axles & rotors. This rear can be easily adapted (perch modifications) under Shoebox Chevys & Pontiacs, so should fit under your '55 Century, as well.

    The '75-76 Seville 8.5 rear is factory drum brake, & if memory serves right is 4 3/4" bolt pattern. Both of these Seville "X-body" rears use a round flat pinion flange also used on some B series 8.5's in the early 70's. In most swaps, its advantageous to use the common '75+ 3R style 8.5 pinion flange.
