I have a 1956 Century that I pulled off a farm couple weekends ago. In getting off the ground and some tires that hold air I have discovered that I am missing a Rear coil spring. Kanters I think has them put they are little pricey. What donor car from the bone yard could I use that would have comparable springs? A big Cadillac or something. Also were could I find the Spec. one these and other springs.

    Thanks!

Iam posting this again cause I think I posted it in the wrong place earlier.

I bought mine new from NAPA abput 10 years ago. They are the variable load (the more you compress them, the stiffer they get) and came off a late '80s or early '90s Caprice or Roadmaster wagon. I paid $75-80 for the pair.
If you can measure the remaining spring height and coil diameters, you can match any up to it, or adjust your ride height accordingly.

Thanks! I guess it will be better to match rear springs with rear springs? I am assuming front springs on a donor car would be stiffer cause of the weight of the engine.

Yeah, front springs will have a much higher load rate.

I got mine at NAPA also. There was no application chart but I got 7 turn springs with pigtail ends top and bottom. Here's the thing. I also bought springs from Kanters but they were much weaker. The rear end really sagged with them in there. The NAPA springs were much thicker diameter. Of course I wish I had gone one additional turn.

I have a '56 Century at my shop. Both rear springs, $45.00 plus shipping.
