I thought I would try posting this here and also on the Nailhead Forum. Just purchased a 60 Lesabre from the original owners estate sale. It has what appears to be four original full hubcaps on it, although nowhere on them do they say Buick. The outer part is all stainless steel and the center spinner appears to be chromed. Under the lip of the chrome spinner there is the following, "Part No. 1188985". Anyone happen to know if this is a GM part number and if it belongs on this vehicle? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Larry,

The 60 model standard hubcap would not have a center spinner as I believe you were describing.

I believe those may be off a 59 which I think did have a spinner. The 60 models center is more like a "mini moon brand style". Just a smooth, raised chrome center.

    Hope that helps.

    Fritz :TU:

Not the greatest picture but maybe this will help also.

Here is a "Before and after Fritz" picture of my 1960.

Believe it or not this was nothing but some careful waxing and wet sanding (over several months) and a decent set of used wide whites.

Diamond in the rough kinda story.Post a couple pics of yours if you have some.

*Disclaimer*: Before you ask, those are 1963 Riv. spinner type wire caps on my drivers side picture. Just thought they picked up the grill and lower ribbed molding better in my cars case.

It sounds like you've got the deluxe caps. they look essentially the same as the standards but with the chrome center

    Larry,
Congrats on your recent 1960 Buick acquisition! If you have not already done so, you may wish to visit my 1960 Buick website. On page 11 (http://hometown.aol.com/equipoise60/60buickhomepage11.html) there are pictures showing both the "deluxe" and "super deluxe" 1960 Buick wheel covers.

Both were optionally available on a LeSabre, although the "deluxe" cover was considerably more common. Both wheelcovers were unique to the 60 Buick and were not used for any other applications or model years.

    Thanks John, Greg and Gerig,
Sounds like they may be from a 59. I posted a picture of one on the Nailhead Forum. Sorry I did not post the picture here also, our dial-up connection is so slow, it takes about 35 minutes to send a picture! Anyone happen to have a picture of the 59 hubcaps offered? This Forum is great!! Very nice web site Greg, tons of information. Thanks again.

    Larry,

Here is a better picture for you on the 1960 Deluxe hubcaps. The standard caps do not have the chrome stepped inner ring, or the raised chrome fins as the Deluxe models (pictured ).

I'm still hunting for a picture of the 59 model style.

In the meantime here is a link someone here shared with me a good while ago on a excellent source for missing hubcaps.

    http://www.hubcaps.org/lesabre.html

BTW I believe I still have an extra set of the standard 1960 hubcaps if you decide to go that route (just PM me if that would work for your project). :TU:

    Wow!

Those 59 hubcaps are "fun" to find :Dou:

Now that I think a little more about it the 59 Deluxe caps may have a kind of "T bar" instead of the spinner I mentioned earlier.

The link to the hubcap site does have what must be a standard cap but not the one I think you are looking for.

I'll check some more after work.

    See ya :3gears:
