A non-mechanical buddy is looking at a gorgeous 1961 LeSabre Bubbletop. It has the original 364 nailhead in it. He will want to add AC to this car, so I am doing some research. I only see brackets for 401-425 engines. Will these brackets fit the 364? If not, who makes brackets that will mount a Sanden compressor?

Also, I know it will need a fan shroud. Are there any aftermarket shrouds available that will fit this car?

    Thanks!

Anything off of a 401 or a 425 should work. I don't know anything about Sanden compressors, I'm assuming it's a brand name of sorts, but the A/C brackets and pulleys as well as the water pump should work, just keep it all to one year and model.

The 401/425 have a slightly higher deck height than a 364. I would say that small mods may be nec. for a 364.

I hate to be the guy that pees on your pasta, but what Tom said. The 401-425 have a slightly wider water manifold; one of the bracket mounting holes attaches to the top right water manifold bolt. Also the rear top bracket attaches to the intake manifold. I don't know if Buick changed the bracket or the location of the bracket attaching point, but 364 intake manifold is different then the bigger Nails. I would find someone with a 401 or 425 and do some very careful measuring. I hope that I am wrong, but I think close, but no cigar. I would love it if you would keep us posted .

To clarify: I realize that the water manifold hole in the 401-425 is in the same relationship with the head as it is on a 364, but the timing case is not. The front bracket will bolt to the timing case but then not to the water manifold bolt hole without something being modified.

My buddy decided to pass on this car, so it doesn't look like we will be doing this. Thanks for all the help, anyway. He has developed a list for 64-65 Rivieras, it seems.
