That seems like a fair price. What are they going for restored?

That probably is a very fair price but it's also a fine example of why I would take a Buick or Olds over a chevy most every time.

What would a wildcat like that sell for??
Wouldn't you rather have a dual quad 401?

The chevy is a very nice car, but for the money I can buy one heck of a nice Buick or Olds.

I owned a 64 SS 409 4 spd when I was 17 I remember mine having chrome valve covers. This might be a 409 and it could be a 348 which would kill the value. I don't remember without going back but didn't he say he wasn't sure if the engine was matching or not? Still a neat car and nice color. The interior makes me think he got it out of East LA

For a non numbers matching project car that has a 4 speed and came from the factory that way, but the engine could have been anything?

Very specific that there is surface rust on the bottom but none on fenders, hood or truck lid.
No mention of the real trouble areas? Hmmm....

You may be right, but I don't see it, They know what engine it has but don't know what it came with, specific items listed as rust free, but the quarters and windows not mentioned.

I still say it sounds high to me.
Would a 63 impala have had a tilt column? I have no idea but would have been surprised to see one in that car.

Another thing is that a 64 or 65 (like your old car) tends to be a more desirable car than a 63.
Not that I don't like 63 cars, but the 65 is the starting point most of the time for higher prices and I think, (not sure on wildcat or impala) that the 63 is a different car.

It's either a 348 or the dipstick is missing. 409's have the disptick and tube on the RH side, attached to the second bolt back from the front of the exhaust manifold.

Only way I know how to tell the difference between the two "W" motors, without looking at numbers or taking it apart.

Originally a small block car??... most were. Still probably a pretty good car for the money, considering it's condition.

They only denoted V8 or six not actual displacement.

The '62 and '63 are the premium years for these, the '64 and '65 are nice but not as desirable.

I thought only the 409 cars had the tach like that, note the red line

MY CAR :) I Worked on it today -I used RUST-MORT(made by SEM) Stops rust dead.Used it on the surface rust in trunk. That stuff works great and easy to use. Also put the oil tube and dipstick on along with harmonic pulley and bolts.I also updated info. on A.A.C.A Forum along with pictures :kodak: I was also told by a Chevy guy that 1963s did not have tiltwheel(someone may have added it in cars lifetime) From what I can find on non #s matching motor is a QG suffix which I have been told is for 1963-64 Pass. car 409 340HP power glide tranny. There is no rust around windows or 1/4 panels. I have some NOS emblems for car also along with original steering wheel.I see them done in Hemmings(no 4-spd.) for 45K to 50K and recent auctions around 50K so my asking price of $14,000 seemed fair????(not having to deal with rust makes any project an easy one -BELIEVE ME I KNOW:Dou: ).I continue with the frame off on my 5 -67 GSs and if SS does not sell soon I will do the car myself -the Palomar Red looks a lot like the Burgandy Mist post car I am doing now. :beers2:

So did the 409 have chrome valve covers or not. I like the car and think it would make a cool addition to any collection. I am not anal when it comes to numbers on cars. It would make it way more valuable to a collector with the matching numbers engine but we all know what happened to these muscle cars along the way. I for one do not think its way out of line but wish it was less so I could buy it:) It reminds me so much of my 64 with that tach. Did they come in all SS or just the 409

Not so sure about that, a 65 409 car is pretty desirable.

    Never said it wasn't

Said it was "not as desirable" as the '62 and '63.

Same goes for big Pontiacs. 65's are nice, but 62-63 bring the big $$$ and are harder to find.
