I pursued buying a used driveshaft for my 64 Special 2 door with stock rear and standard 27 spline trans yoke. I need one that is 60" long and has the Buick style U joints. The guy had one from a 66 chevelle that was the right length but it had different U joints. He told me I could get offset U joints to make it work (which I don't doubt) but I didn't want to buy this used driveshaft only to have to buy more stuff to make it work for me. As my driveshaft has a good trans yoke and good u joints, it's dented and bent in the middle. I'd rather just get a used Buick one and be done with it.

Did I do the right thing or are these offset u joints common? I pursued this guy because he was local. But I may have to post a Parts Wanted add out there for a drive shaft.

It sounds right, but I'd have to research to be sure.
Buick uses 3r u-joints (I think), chev uses something else.
Rockauto.com shows different pn's for the two.
You might find the answer on Monzaz's site, www.jdrace.com .Conversion U-joints aren't real expensive, but originality may be more important to you.
I've heard of a '65 in an area junkyard, but haven't been there yet.....

Thanks for the info Walt! Cool about a possible 65 in the area. Would it be a Bucks County yard? If you think of the name or know the number I can give them a call and hopefully it has a driveshaft. My goal is to buy a junkyard driveshaft that is useable. Originality is my goal not specifically for restoration purposes but just as a useable plug-and-play so I can get this car driveable. It will be powered by a stock 71 350-4 so not nuts on power and it's only a peg-leg 3:0 rear gear.

Hey Kevin, I sent you a PM with details.
I see you have a Cougar too.... I have a pair of '67 Fairlanes I'm attached to. Tough to get that 'blue' blood' out of my system!
