1964 Owners with a 300 2bbl... Lets see your vacuum tree

Discussion in 'Small Block Tech' started by BamaWildcat, Feb 26, 2003.

  1. Hello again everybody. In a previous post I asked for help in finding out what an object was on the end of my vacuum tree that stuck out of the back of my carb. Now I am on a quest to see what a "factory" vacuum tree looks like. If anybody has a picture of a 1964 2bbl carb sitting on a 300 CI engine, I'd sure appreciate seeing it. This is how my setup looked:

Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Joe

    Joe,

The 300 engine/transmission configuration for the A and B body cars is the same, so this info should carry right over:

I dug out my trusty 1964 Skylark Assembly Manual and found a diagram of the vacuum tree(s). There were two versions:

A two gang and a four gang (like yours).

On the two gang (P/N 1363936), PCV came off on the right side and on the left was one of Power Brake, Cruise or Airator.

On the four gang (P/N 1363937), PCV came off on right front. Right rear was Airator or a plug (P/N 444571). Left front was Power Brake only. Left rear was cruise control or the plug.

Four bbl cars didn't use an Airator, if I interpret the diagrams correctly. Airator position was fitted with a plug. Other postions are the same on 4bbl applications on 2 and 4 gang trees.

Cars with no options had no tree. PCV went directly to carb on the V8 and the intake manifold on the V6.

Your application appears factory correct. As you marked it, T/C is the Airator... I can't tell where the A/C line goes.

There is no discussion of what the Airator does, why it's only on 2BBL cars or how to adjust it.

I suspect for a difinitive answer, someone will have to find an old A/C man that has some historical knowledge. Google only came up with a million hits on some Body Glove product.

    Cheers,
    John

  3. Hey John, Thanks for your help. I had asked about the ariator over at http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?threadid=13994&goto=newpost. That was my first puzzle, and you have helped me with the second. Glad for everyone's help as I am trying to get my poor Buick to resemble how it looked before all of the other owners modifications.
