I have been following other threads on similar set ups to mine but I didn't want to hijack them with my question. (Like http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=222162 ) I have a mild build on my 300ci (355 wildcat) and I went with a semi-built 200 4R overdrive. The car has the original posi rear with 2.78 ratio and my rear tires are 26.5 inches tall . My car is a convert and I don't plan on killing myself at any tracks, so what rear gear should I go with for all around fun driving as well as getting it up to freeway speed in overdrive?
I've got the same engine/trans combo in my '64 and I'm running a 3.73 gear and 26" tires. I turn about 2000 rpm's at 70 mph in OD. If you're not going to spend too much time on the freeway I'd go with a 4.10. You'll probably have to change the carrier in your 8.2 to get anything above the low 3's but I'm not positive.
