    Topcat Got TORQUE?

Trying to help a friend....he can get his mounts re-vulcanised but i don't trust they will hold if he stomps the throttle on his 425 so i have recommended NOS GM or 60's-70's NORS......plus that he try and find the GM tie down cable with bracket that mounted to the head and upper control arm shaft. I had one on my white Cat....i drag raced it a LOT and i never worried about breaking a motor mount and taking out a hood and air cleaner.
Does anyone have a picture of the cable and bracket that i can send him....please post it here.
    All help greatly appreciated!

    Peace WildBill

Bill is it the cable type that went around the upper control arm shaft?
If so I will check my Cat tomorrow. I think it is still on the shaft, from when I pulled the engine.

I just use 4 links of chain. Fast, reliable, un-breakable. Paint it semi-gloss black & it can't be seen as the P/S pump mostly blocks it's view.
Been this way for 50+ years & haven't broken a mount even using slicks.

That's what I did with my 66 I had several years ago.

I know Carmen has a factory NOS torque limiting cable setup.

Thanks John !....that is exactly what i want him to see. A chain would do it but i think these are a much better option if we can find him one.:)

And it is a GM part.

Anybody got one they want to sell ?

I can't believe I remembered where it was actually :D. I will be meeting with a company the end of February that crimps cable chains. I will bring this with me to see if they will make the cable section. I can make the mount section.
If anyone is interested in a reproduction, let me know

I picked the bracket years ago.. No cable + I believe it was under center head bolt on big Buick. Myself I wouldn't mess with head bolt attachments.

I pulled a standard head bolt and replaced it with a stud bolt torqued and good to go

    Hi,
I posted in the parts wanted section today. I'm looking for one of these kits.
Please let me know if you have additional info locating one for sale.
    Thanks,

I just saw the "Cat" signal go up over Gotham City from Mayor Wildbill. The parts bag is a little dirty but the instructions are still there! Like you need them.

I'm sure I got this from Wildbill. I don't remember what I paid. I just want what's fair and I'll let Wildbill set the price.

WOW....that was quite awhile ago oh Grand Pooobah :)

Considering that it will keep you from wiping out an air cleaner and denting a hood if a motor mount lets go when you floor it.....that's a lot of insurance right there with that part..

It's your part and i am sure i did'nt give it away when i sold it.......i would be asking $125.00 for it.

I drag raced my California 66 Cat a whole lot back in the day....luckily i found one of these in a NOS Buick parts lot that i had bought and added it to my car before i did all that racing.

I broke a motor mount at Norwalk one year and that strap saved the day.....

And not knowing anything about this Buick Engineering "fix it", back in the mid '80's I didn't have one installed. Goodbye air cleaner snorkel and fan shroud, hello dimpled hood and throttle stuck at WOT!

    That was a thrill. Not!

    Using interlocking mounts after that.

Ok, thinking about how expensive a dual quad air cleaner is, and I do flog the Cat, I better get this thing installed soon. Sorry to crawfish on this.
