Anyone have a recommendation for a wiring harness for a 65' Rivi? I can't decide if I want to just strip the entire electrical system and start over or if I should take it from the firewall back. My engine electrical seems to be fine but almost none of my accessories are working. I'm pulling the interior, carpet, and door skins already to get to the power windows so I'm thinking that now would be the time to rewire the whole thing and never think about it again. This Rivi will eventually be a mild custom focusing on the "Muscle Car" persona of the Gen 1 Riviera's. Thoughts or Recommendations would be appreciated.

Re1965 Riviera Wiring Harness Question Rewiring a car with things power windows is a pretty big project, a lot easier if you can buy a proper replacement harness. I would take a shot at patching up any problems. If the wiring is truly hopeless, replace it. You'll need to find a source of replacement connectors. I'd try doing one area at a time. good luck, Bruce Roe
I have always heard that the most important harness to replace is the engine electrical. This is usually where most of the changes have been made and where heat and elements come into play. Scott
Should be no need to replace the entire harness unless you are seeking to redo everything for the sake of knowing it is new. Yes, the wiring may be old and in some areas brittle but if cost/time is an issue try to service the original harness. There is a lug on the driver`s side firewall just below the booster which brings power into the interior/fuse box. You are looking for a somewhat large diameter red wire. Be sure this is clean and tight, has power, and work into the car from there. If you join the Riviera Owners Association you will have access to the vast wasteland that is my cranium...I am a tech advisor for the club and know your Riviera`s electrical system inside and out. Many other benefits too! Good luck, Tom Mooney

Thanks for the advice. I'm still torn because I know that I could get away with not pulling all the electrical. The car is actually in pretty good shape but since I am taking everything out of it: interior, dash, door skins, etc. it just seems like a good time to replace everything. Maybe I'll rethink rewiring the whole thing but once I am "done" with this car I don't want to be worried about something minor going out that will require me to remove the door skins or interior again and I have to admit there is a part of me that wants this car to be new again.
